미국 대중음악에 나타난 여성 인권 운동 요소에 관한 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 1960년대를 중심으로 전개된 여성 인권 운동과 해당 시기 이를 반영한 미국 대중음악 작품들을 관찰하여 당시 미국 대중음악에 나타난 여성 인권 운동 요소를 고찰하는 것이다. 연구의방법으로는 먼저 1960년대 부상한 여성 인권 운동의 배경과 전반적인 흐름을 살펴보고 이를 통해 여성인권 운동의 요소를 관찰해보았다. 이후 1960년대 발표한 미국 대중음악 작품을 선별하여 작품 배경과주요 가사의 분석을 통해 미국 대중음악에 나타나는 여성 인권 운동 요소를 고찰해 보았다. 해당 연구를 통해 1960년대 미국 대중음악에서는 ‘성차별 폐지’, ‘사회적 시선 및 대우 개선’, ‘여성 결정권 강화’, ‘여성 인권 보장’이라는 네 가지 여성 인권 운동 요소를 고찰하였다. 이러한 결론을 통해 여성 인권 운동을 대변하는 장치로서 상호작용하는 대중음악의 관계성을 관찰하고 당대의 시대상과 대중들의 의식을반영하는 대중음악의 특징을 이해하는 데 도움을 줄 수 있는 기초자료로 제공하고자 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the elements of the women's rights movement that appeared in American popular music at the time by observing the women's rights movement that developed around the 1960s and the works of American popular music that reflected it during that time. As a method of research, first, the background and overall flow of the women's rights movement that emerged in the 1960s were examined, and through this, the elements of the women's rights movement were observed. Later, American popular music works published in the 1960s were selected, and the elements of the women's rights movement in American popular music were considered through analysis of the background and main lyrics. Through this study, four elements of the women's rights movement in American popular music in the 1960s 'abolishing gender discrimination', 'improving social gaze and treatment', 'strengthening women's right to decide', and 'guaranteeing women's rights'. Through this conclusion, we intend to provide basic data to observe the relationship between popular music that interacts as a device representing the women's rights movement and to help understand the characteristics of popular music that reflect the consciousness of the time and the public.
