일본 근대 초기 초등 교재의 어휘 교육 연구

국문 초록

일본의 근대 교육의 제도적 시작이라 할 수 있는 학제 직후 근대 교육에 적합한 교과서를 즉각 마련하여 도입하는 일은 쉽지 않은 일이었기에, 세간에 유통 중인 서적 중에서 근대 교육에 적합한 교재를선별하여 교과서로 활용하였다. “세카이 쇼바이오라이”는 1871년 하시즈메 간이치(橋爪貫一, 1820-1884)에 의해 간행된 서적으로, 근대 초기 교과서로 활용된 서적 중 하나이다. 본고는 “세카이쇼바이오라이”의 내용과 구성을 살펴봄으로써 첫째, 기존의 어휘 학습 방식의 전통과 새로운 근대 지식을 적절히 융화시킨 과도기적 성격을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, “세카이 쇼바이오라이”의 근대적 요소를두서의 영어 대역과 본문의 근대 어휘에서 찾고자 한 본고의 시도는 근대 초기 외래어에 대한 대중적지식 수준을 가늠해 볼 수 있었다는 점에서 의의가 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The immediate preparation and introduction of modern textbooks suitable for modern education right after the inception of the system of modern education in Japan was not an easy task. Therefore, among the books available in circulation, suitable materials for modern education were selected and used as textbooks. “Sekai-shobaiorai(世界商売往来)” is one such book published in 1871 by Hashizume Kanichi (1820-1884) and is one of the early modern textbooks. This paper examines the content and structure of “Sekai-shobaiorai”. Through this analysis, it was possible to confirm the transitional nature of “Sekai-shobaiorai” which appropriately blended traditional vocabulary learning methods with new modern knowledge. While the attempt in this paper to identify the modern elements in “Sekai-shobaiorai” through the English translation of the headnote and modern vocabulary of main text, it holds significance in establishing the continuity of modern vocabulary learning in the early modern era and assessing the public's knowledge of early modern loanwords.
