국문 초록

이 글은 2016년 구글 딥마인드가 개발한 바둑 인공지능인 ‘알파고(AlphaGo)’와 이세돌의 대국이 바둑계에 가져온 변화와 대응을 복기함으로써 인공지능의 예술적 가능성을 고찰하기 위한 것이다. 알파고는인간의 기보를 학습하는 데에서 출발했지만 ‘알파고제로(AlphaGoZero)’는 스스로와의 대국을 통해 바둑계를 제패했고 인간이 거꾸로 인공지능의 바둑을 연구하기 시작했다. 예술작품을 생성하는 인공지능 역시 인간의 작품을 학습하는 데에서 출발하여 자율성을 확대하고 있으며, Manovich(2019)는 인공지능예술이 인간 예술의 체계성에서 벗어나면서도 무작위적이지 않은 다른 종류의 체계성을 구축할 가능성을 제시한다. 그러나 인공지능은 입력과 출력 사이의 인과관계를 파악할 수 없는 블랙박스로서 인공지능 관점에서의 ‘해석’을 요구하기도 한다. 결국 인공지능은 인간의 피조물로서 인간성의 확장인 동시에인간 고유의 창의성이 다차원적으로 발현되는 매개물 내지 결과이며, 예술은 인간과 인공지능의 창의적공생을 가늠하는 시험대에 서 있다.

영문 초록

This article delves into the artistic potential of artificial intelligence (AI) through the lens of Lee Se-dol's 2016 match against 'AlphaGo'. Developed by Google DeepMind, AlphaGo marked a turning point in the world of Go, learning from human data initially and later evolving with 'AlphaGoZero' through self-play. Similarly, AI in art begins by assimilating human creations and gradually expands its autonomy. Manovich(2019) argues that AI-generated art breaks from human artistic conventions, establishing novel systematic structures beyond randomness, unlocking creative avenues. However, AI's inner workings remain enigmatic, a black box defying clear understanding of input-output causality. This underscores the need for an AI-oriented perspective in interpreting AI actions. Ultimately, artificial intelligence is an extension of human ingenuity—a manifestation of human creativity that operates as both an intermediary and a culmination of multifaceted human expression. It exists as a testament to the coalescence of human and artificial intelligence creativity, posing art as a crucible for evaluating the collaborative creative potential of humans and artificial intelligence.
