아쿠타가와의 역사소설에 나타난 예술적 미학

국문 초록

본 연구는 1918년에 발표된 『사이고 다카모리(西郷隆盛)』를 중심으로 ‘거짓이 없는 역사’와 ‘아름다운 역사’ 논쟁에서 나타난 역사적 서술의 허구성과 예술(소설 창작)의 우위성을 하인리히 리케르트의 『역사와 예술』이라는 관점에서 살펴봤다. 작품의 주인공인 노신사는 역사의 사실을 통한 ‘거짓이 없는 역사’와 같은 객관적인 서술이 불가능한 만큼 역사적 진실은 아무도 알 수 없다고 주장하면서, 만일 그렇다고 한다면 ‘아름다운 역사’를 서술하여 ‘놀라운 광경’을 표현함으로써 예술적 가치를 강조한다. 이것이 야말로 아쿠타가와 류노스케의 역사소설 창작이면서 자신만의 역사적 사실을 바라보는 ‘눈’ 말하자면 독자적인 역사관, 예술관으로 다른 역사소설과 구분되는 특징이라고 할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This study examined fictionality of historical description and art(novel writing) superiority shown in ‘truthful history’ and ‘beautiful history’ from a viewpoint of Heinrich Rickert’s 『history and art』 by focusing on 『Saigo Takamori』 published in 1918. An old gentleman, the main character in the work of art, argues that no one knows the historical truth as the objective descriptions such as ‘truthful history’ through the historical facts are impossible. And he emphasizes an artistic and aesthetic value by expressing ‘surprising sights’ through the description of ‘beautiful history’ if so. It is this that is Akutagawa Ryunosuke’s purpose of creating historical novels and his own way of looking at the historical facts, that is, the distinguishing features from other historical novels as the independent view of history and art.
