그레마스 기호학 이론을 통해 본 리브레토의 서사구조 - 시빌리야의 이발사(Il Barbiere di Siviglia)를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 그레마스의 기호학 이론을 통해 이른바 벨칸토 오페라의 대표작인 로시니의 <시빌리야의 이발사> 리브레토를 분석함으로써 리브레토가 비논리적이며 형편없는 수준이라는 기존의 신뢰성 없는 논의를 반박한 논문이다. 이야기를 분석함에 있어 기호학은 인상비평식의 주관적 해석이 아닌 보다 객관적이고 과학적 방법을 제공한다는 점에서 리브레토의 서사구조에 관한 연구방법으로 효과적이다. 로시니의 오페라 <시빌리야의 이발사>의 리브레토를 그레마스의 행동자 모델과 기호학적 사각형으로 분석해본 결과 이 작품은 사랑의 결핍을 가진 알마비바가 대립자인 바르톨로와 바빌리오의 방해에도 불구하고 조력자인 피가로의 도움을 받아 로지나와의 사랑을 성취하게 된다는 서사구조로 행동자 모델에 완벽히 대입되었다. 또한 등장인물들에 의해 표상되는 사랑과 야욕, 비야욕과 비사랑의 서사행로가 지속적으로 나타나며, 영웅서사와 민담과 같은 전통적 서사의 전개방식과 다르지 않음이 확인되었다.

영문 초록

In this paper, I refuted the existing unreliable argument that the structure of narrative in librettos is illogical and poor. by analyzing a libretto, Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Gioacchino Antonio Rossini that is a representative work of Bel Canto Opera, through Greimas semiotic theory. In analyzing the narrative, semiology is effective as a research method of narrative structures of the libretto in that it provides a more objective and scientific method, not a subjective interpretation of impression-criticism. Analysis of the libretto of Il Barbiere di Siviglia based on the actantial model and semiotic squares reveals that this libretto was perfectly adapted to the actantial model in a narrative structure, in which Almaviva with a lack of love, in spite of the obstacles of the opponents Bartolo and Basilio, was able to fulfill love with Rosina with the help of his assistant Figaro. In addition, the narratives of love, ambition, and non-ambition, non-love that are represented by the characters are consistently shown and are not different from the traditional narrative style such as heroic narrative and folklore.
