다문화가정 학생과 일반학생의 학업성취도 격차 연구

국문 초록

이 논문은 우리사회에 증가하는 다문화가정 학생들의 학업성취도에 관한 연구이다. 이 학생들의 학업성취도가 개인, 가정의 사회ㆍ경제적 배경, 학교ㆍ지역사회변인에 따라 어떠한 양상을 보이는지 그리고 일반학생들과의 격차는 어떠한지를 분석하였다. 또한 독일의 사례를 중심으로 국가별 다문화가정 학생과 일반학생의 학업 성취도 격차도 비교하였다. 이를 위해 167명 (2-6학년)의 다문화가정 초등학생들이 설문조사에 참여하였고 담임교사들의 성적기록으로 자료가 수집되었다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 19.0 프로그램을 사용하여 t-test, ANOVA, 상관관계 분석을 통해 결과를 도출하였다. 주요결과는 첫째, 다문화가정 학생의 학업 성취도는 높은 학생들과 낮은 학생들 간에 양극화하는 현상이 나타났다. 특히 국어, 사회, 과학과목에서 일반학생과의 격차가 큰 것이 밝혀졌다. 둘째, 가정변인에 따라 전반적으로 외국인근로자 가정 학생의 성취도는 국제결혼가정 학생에 비해 더 뒤떨어지는 것으로 나타났으나, 영어과목에서는 일반학생보다도 높은 것이 밝혀졌다. 셋째, 학생개인변인 (성별, 체류기간, 출생지, 언어능력)에 따라 학업성취도에 유의미한 차이가 나타났다. 특히 여학생이 남학생보다 모든 교과영역에서 높은 학업성취를 보였다. 넷째, 가정의 사회ㆍ경제적 배경 변인에 따라 다문화가정 학생들의 학업성취도가 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 모의 출신국과 학력은 자녀들의 학업성취에 많은 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 또한 가정에서 외국어만을 사용하는 학생들의 학업성취도는 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 학교ㆍ지역사회 변인에 따라서도 이들의 학업성취도는 차이가 있음이 발견되었다. 이 결과들을 바탕으로 다문화가정 학생의 교육지원을 세분화 할 것과 부모교육의 필요성, 학교의 다문화적 환경조성을 제안한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to Wlderstand aspects of academic achieveirent levels of students from multicultural families such as international marriage and immigrant worker families who are in Korean schools. For the purpooe, this study analyzed the academic achievement levels of these students compared with those of other students and with the results of a Gennan study. In this study, 167 eleirentary studei1ts participated from multicultural families. According to the variables related to family, student, and school, there were many meaningful results. First, the gaps of academic achievement of between students from multicultural families and other students were big related to the three subjects (Korean language, social studies, and mathematics). Jn general, the scores of students from immigrant worker families were lower than thooe of students from international marriage families. It was the same results as the Gennan study. The serious issue was that the academic achievement of students from multicultural families were polarized between the best and the lowest scores. Second, there were signigicant results according to student's variables (Korean language skills, nationality, the years of residence, gender, supplementary lessons, peer relation). Especially, the academic achieveirent gaps between girls and boys from multicultural families were big in five subject scores. Third, based on mother's education levels and home countries, the students' acadeinic achieve1rent levels were different. Also, the students from families using non Korean at home received lower scores. Fourth, the academic achieveirent levels of the students were different in relation to school and community support variables. As a result, this study suggests that there should be specific supportive educational programs for students from multicultural families, parent education for their parents, and preparation for mullticultural school environment.
