보존과학에서 이미지 분석기법의 활용 방안 연구 : 멕시코시티 메트로폴리탄 성당을 중심으로

국문 초록

멕시코는 라틴아메리카 3대문명 중에 마야 문명, 아즈텍 문명의 발상지로서 역사의 보물창고로서도 페루, 과테말라 등과 함께 이미 세계적으로 널리 알려진 국가이다. 라틴아메리카 국가 가운데 가장 많은 유네스코 문화유산을 보유한 국가로서 보존과학 및 인류학 분야에서도 상당한 발전을 이룩한 결과 여러 분야에서 경쟁력 있는 수많은 연구자들을 배출하였다. 본 연구는 1987년에 멕시코의 세계문화유산으로 지정된 메트로폴리탄 성당(Metropolitan Cathedral)을 대상으로 이미지 분석기법의 활용 방안을 제시해 보고자 하였다. 메트로폴리탄 성당은 16세기에 건축 초기부터 지반침하와 홍수, 지진과 같은 자연재해로 잦은 피해를 입고 수리와 복구를 계속해 왔다. 1989년부터 2000년까지 대규모 성당 복구 프로젝트의 일환으로 지질, 지층, 건축역사 등의 세부8검토와 각종 측정 및 측량법을 동원하여 건물 기반, 지표면, 지하 기초공사 등에 대한 조사가 수행되었다. 본 논문에서는 사진측량법을 이용하여 건축 당시부터의 여러 가지 문제점과 지반침하의 정도를 측량한 예를 제시하고 이를 통하여 이미지 분석법의 활용 방안을 소개해 보고자 한다.

영문 초록

Mexico is the birthplace of the Mayan and Aztec civilizations among Latin America s three great civilizations, and is known throughout the world as Peru and Guatemala as treasure trove of history. As one of the largest UNESCO heritage sites in Latin America, significant advances have been made in conservation and anthropology, resulting in numerous competitive researchers. This study introduces applications of image analysis techniques using the Metropolitan Cathedral, a World Heritage Site in Mexico, designated in 1987. It has been affected by uneven ground settlement and natural disasters, such as floods and earthquakes, since its early stages of construction in the 16th century. Repair and restoration efforts have been continued. During the large-scale cathedral restoration projects conducted from 1989 to 2000, the building foundation, ground surface, and underground foundation were surveyed and data gathered by using various measurement and survey methods including detailed examination of geology, strata and construction history. In this paper, we present photogrammetric methods to illustrate various problems, including ground settlement, from the time of construction as application examples of image analysis techniques in conservation science.
