여가활동에 기반한 대학생들의 학습 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 대학생들의 여가활동을 영어학습으로 활용된다면 대학생들을 적극적인 학습자로 탈바꿈시킴으로써 영어학습 효과가 극대화될 것이라는 가정에서 출발한다. 본 연구의 목적은 대학생들이 선정한여가활동을 기반으로 영어학습을 경험하게 하고, 그 경험의 본질적 의미를 현상학적 연구방법으로 규명해 보는 데 있다. 연구참여자는 충청남도에 위치한 J대학 보건복지학부 재학생 9명이다. 자료는 심층면담을 통해 수집되었고, Colaizzi의 현상학적 방법으로 수집한 자료를 분석하였다. 연구의 결과 18개의중심내용과 7개의 대주제로 범주화되었다. 긍정적인 측면으로 ‘배경지식의 효과’, ‘명확한 목표의식’, ‘자율성’, ‘정의적 태도 변화’. ‘구어체 표현의 노출’이 도출되었다. 부정적인 측면은 ‘자료 선정의 어려움’과‘영어학습 자료로서의 한계’로 나타났다. 본 연구의 시사점으로는 여가활동에 기반한 영어 학습 경험으로, MZ 세대 학습자들이 선호하는 교수전략으로 매체 활용의 여러 방안이 모색될 필요가 있음을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This study begins with the assumption that effects of English learning using learners’ leisure activities will be maximized by transforming them into active English learners. This study aims to enable college students to experience English learning based on leisure activities and to identify the essential meaning of the experience using phenomenological research methods. The participants were 9 students majoring in Health and Welfare at J University in Chungnam. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and the collected data were analyzed by Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. As a result of the research, 18 significant statements and 7 themes including 5 positive and 2 negative aspects were categorized. Findings were as follows. Positive aspects were ‘background knowledge’, ‘clear sense of goal’, ‘autonomy’, ‘change in affective attitude’. and ‘exposure to colloquial expressions’. Negative ones were the two ‘difficulty in selecting materials’ and ‘limitations as English learning materials’. The result suggests that it is necessary to explore various ways to utilize media as a teaching strategy preferred by MZ learners as an English learning experience based on leisure activities.
