소크라테스 대화법 관련 교육연구 현황 분석

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 2022년 개정 교육과정 시행을 앞둔 현시점에서 소크라테스 대화법과 관련한 교육 연구 현황을 분석하는 데 목적을두고 있다. 방법 2015년부터 2022년 12월까지 발표된 교육분야의 소크라테스 대화법 관련 학위논문 및 국내 학술지 자료 130편을 연구대상으로 선정하여 1차적으로 유⋅초⋅중⋅고등학교 학교급에 따라 연구유형을 분석하였다. 2차적으로 연구유형을 연구내용에 따라분류하여 적용 교과 현황, 연구주제, 활용 문헌과 모형들을 세부적으로 검토하였다. 결과 첫째, 연구유형은 전반적으로 문헌연구에 편중되어 있었다. 특히, 공동 또는 초등 및 고등학교 대상 연구들에서 문헌연구의비중이 높았으며, 유아 대상으로는 양적연구가, 중학교 대상으로는 질적연구가 주를 이루었다. 둘째, 소크라테스 대화법 관련 연구130편 중 72편은 기초연구로 분류되었으며, 주로 ‘교육전반’, ‘도덕’교과에 집중되어 있었다. 실천연구의 경우, ‘도덕’과 ‘철학’ 교과에 주로 적용되고 있었으며, 특히 유아 대상으로는 ‘철학(적 탐구공동체 활동)’의 비중이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 연구대상의활용 문헌과 모형을 검토한 결과, 기초연구에서는 ｢대화편｣을 가장 많이 활용하며, ｢대화편｣의 교육적 함의, 즉 ‘교수방법’, ‘교사상’, ‘교육목적’, ‘교육내용’ 등을 중심으로 살피고 있었다. 또한｢대화편｣에 나타난 핵심개념을 활용하여 ‘진리추구’,‘지식’,‘지행합일’,‘지혜’를 교육목적으로 강조하고, 소크라테스 대화 전략 중 엘렌코스(Elenchos)방식을 가장 많이 분석하고 있었다. 실천연구에서는 50% 이상이 철학적 탐구공동체 활동을 실시한 결과를 보고하고 있었다. 결론 본 연구는 2022년 개정 교육과정의 시행(2024년)에 앞서, 2015년 교육과정 개정 이래 소크라테스 대화법과 관련된 교육연구 현황을 검토함으로써 후속 연구의 질적 향상을 위한 기초적 연구 자료 및 향후 연구 방향을 제공하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study aims to analyze the current state of educational research related to the Socratic Dialogue method, particularly in the context of the upcoming implementation of the revised 2022 curriculum. Methods The study involved analyzing 130 scholarly articles and thesis related to the Socratic method in education, published between 2015 and December 2022. Initially, the research classified by the types of studies according to school grades and research methods to analyze their current state. For a more comprehensive analysis, the study further categorized research types based on content, examining the status of applied subjects, research topics, and the use of literature and models. Results Firstly, the research types were predominantly literature studies. In particular, literature studies were prevalent in joint or elementary and high school-targeted research, while quantitative studies were common for early childhood and qualitative studies for middle school. Secondly, out of 130 studies related to the Socratic method, 72 were classified as basic research, mainly focusing on ‘general education’ and ‘moral’ subjects. In practical research, ‘moral’ and ‘philosophy’ subjects were commonly applied, especially ‘philosophical (community of inquiry activities)’ for early childhood education. Thirdly, upon reviewing the literature and models used in the research, basic research most frequently utilized ‘Dialogues’, focusing on educational implications like ‘teaching methods’⋅’teacher's role’⋅‘educational objectives’⋅‘content’. They emphasized educational objectives such as ‘truth-seeking’⋅‘knowledge’⋅‘unity of knowledge and action’⋅‘wisdom’, using key concepts from the ‘Dialogues’ and frequently analyzing the Elenchos method of Socratic dialogue. In practical research, over 50% reported results from conducting philosophical inquiry community activities. Conclusions This study is significant as it reviews the current state of educational research related to the Socratic method since the 2015 curriculum revision, in anticipation of the implementation of the revised 2022 curriculum (in 2024). It provides foundational research material for the qualitative improvement of subsequent studies and suggests future directions.
