국문 초록

본고의 목적은 순천시립뿌리깊은나무박물관 소장 서유기 1책의 자료적 가치와 의미를 규명하고자 함이며 구체적으로는 서지적 특징, 필사시기 추정, 번역 특징 등으로 나누어 분석하였다. 순천시립뿌리깊은나무박물관 소장 서유기 의 외형과 체재에 대한 분석 결과, 왕실 자료일 가능성이 상당히 높은 것으로 추정하였다. 필사가 이루어진 시기는 19세기이지만 일부 어미와 조사에서 17-18세기 문헌에 출현하는 어휘들이 발견되고 있어 실제 번역이 이루어졌던 시기는 이보다 더 이른 것으로 판단하였다. 저본이 되었던 원전은 명대 판본이며 그중에서도 李卓吾先生批評西遊記 에 가까운 모습을 띠고 있었다. 번역 특징은 속도감 있는 서사 전개에 중점을 두어 대부분 생략하거나 축약된 형태를 보였고 일부 오역의 부분도 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 같은 번역본 계열에 속하는 영남대 서유기 보다는 중국 원전에더 가깝게 번역된 양상을 보였다.

영문 초록

This paper was to investigate the material value and meaning of Volume 1 of “Journey to the West” in the Suncheon silib Ppuligipeunnamu Museum. Specifically, it was analyzed by dividing it into bibliographic features, estimation of when transcribed, and translation features. It was estimated that “Journey to the West”, in the collection of the Suncheon silib Ppuligipeunnamu Museum, was highly likely to be a royal material considering its appearance and structure. Although the transcription was made in the 19th century, it was judged that the actual translation took place earlier than this, as some suffixes and vocabularies appearing in the 17th and 18th century documents were found. The original translation is the Ming Dynasty version, and among them, it was close to “Lizhuowu Critique of Journey to the West”. Most of the translation features were omitted or abbreviated by focusing on the rapid development of the narrative, and some mistranslations were also confirmed during the transcription process. In addition, as a result of comparison with Yeungnam University's “Journey to the West” belonging to the same translation family, “Journey to the West” at the Suncheon silib Ppuligipeunnamu Museum showed a more similar translation pattern to the original Chinese version.
