체계기능언어학의 논리적 은유와 접속어미를 대체하는 다단어 표현의 관계

국문 초록

목적 이 글의 목적은 체계기능언어학의 논리적 은유의 관점에서 한국어의 접속어미와 그것을 은유하는 다단어 표현의 관계를 설명하는 것이다. 방법 논리적 은유는 문법적 은유 중 하나이다. SFL에서는 절과 절이 결합하여 복합절을 형성할 때, 두 절 사이의 의미적 관계를 논리-의미 관계라고 하는데, 여기에는 확장과 투사가 있다. 이 중 확장의 의미가 실현되는 대표적인 형태가 접속어미이다. 그런데 한국어에는 이러한 접속어미를 대체할 수 있는 다단어 표현들이 존재한다. 본고에서는, 이때 접속어미와 그것을 대체하는 다단어 표현과의 관계를 일치적 표현과 그것을 논리적으로 은유하는 비일치적 표현(은유형)으로 설명했다. 구체적인 단계는 다음과 같다. (1)선행연구의 접속어미 목록들을 모두 수집, 정리하였다. (2)명칭과 상관없이 접속어미 기능을 대체하는 표현들을 수집, 정리하였다. (3)이들을 논리적 은유의 기준에서 하위 분류하였다. 결과 본고에서는 한국어에 접속 의미와 관련된 총 80개의 은유형을 제시하였다. 이들은 다시 논리적 은유형과 논리적 관용형(죽은 은유)으로 나눌 수 있었다. 전자는 일치형과 은유형이 동일한 의미와 커플링 되어 있다. 그러나 후자는 일치형과 은유형 사이의 의미적 커플링이 상실되고 없지만, 여전히 접속의 논리적 의미를 견지하고 있었다. 결론 본고에서는 일치형과 비일치형(은유형)의 차이를 동일 의미를 가지는 서로 다른 어휘문법적 실현 형태로 설명했다. 그러나 양자는 엄밀하게 동일한 의미는 아니며, 비일치형(은유형)의 의미가 일치형과의 공유 의미에 추가될 수 있음을 확인하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this article is to explain the relationship between Korean conjunctions and the multiword expressions they metaphorize in terms of logical metaphors. Methods Logical metaphor is one of the grammatical metaphors of Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL). In SFL, when clauses and clauses combine to form a complex clause, the semantic relation between the two clauses is called the logical-semantic relations, which include ‘expansion’ and ‘projection’. Among them, conjunctions are a representative form in which the meaning of expansion is realized. However, in Korean, there are also multi-word expressions that can replace these conjunctions. The relationship between conjunctions and the multiword expressions that replace them is explained in this paper as a congruent expression vs. an incongruent expression that logically metaphorizes it (metaphor type). The specific steps were as follows (1) We collected and organized all lists of conjunctions from previous studies; (2) We collected and organized expressions that replace conjunctions regardless of their name; and (3) We subcategorized them based on logical metaphors. Results The results of this study showed that there are a total of 80 metaphor types related to conjunctive meaning in Korean. These were further divided into logical metaphor types and logical idiomatic types (dead metaphors). In the former, the congruent and incongruent(metaphor) are coupled with a same meaning. However, in the latter, the semantic coupling between the congruent and metaphorical types had been lost, but the logical meaning of the conjunctive is still retained. Conclusions In this paper, we have explained the difference between congruent and incongruent(metaphorical) in terms of different lexico-grammatical realizations of the same meaning. However, we have seen that they are not strictly equivalent, and that the verbatim meaning of the non-concordant (metaphorical) expressions can be added to the shared meaning with the concordant expression.
