박재삼 문학의 자연관과 전통주의

국문 초록

이 글은 1950년대의 박재삼 초기시인 춘향이 마음 에 드러난 ‘전통’과 ‘자연’이라는 이질적 소재를 전후 전통론의 민족주의 담론과의 관련성 속에서 분석해보고자 한다. 서정주와 조지훈의 전통시론 계보를 잇고 있던 박재삼은 슬픔과 한을 주된 정서로 하여 춘향전과 심청전 등 전통적 서사를 활용한 시적 세계를 그려냄으로써 개성적인 정조를 주조해내었다. 박재삼이 그려내는 슬픔에는 소망의 대상과 그것을 소망하는 자와의 좁혀지지 않는 거리를 한 편의 시 속에 배치함으로써 소재나 주제가 지니는 슬픔의 동기들을 언어의 긴장 속에 용해시킨다. 이런 의미구조를 거치면서 개별체험으로부터 출발한 특정한 슬픔은 한 개인에게 국한된 것이 아니라 누구에게나 잠재적으로 내재되어 있는 보편적 감정의 형태로까지 전이된다. 박재삼이 주목하는 것은 이런 보편적 감정의 한국적 유형인 ‘한’이라고 할 수 있다. 박재삼의 시는 서정주 이후 현대시의 서정적 전통이 단순히 소재적 차원이 아니라 본질적인 차원에서 계승되고 있음을 보여준다. 그가 전통적 정서에 집착하였다는 사실은 50년대적 시대상황을 염두에 둘 때 의미를 찾을 수 있는데, 혼란의 시대, 피폐한 정신의복구를 위해 박재삼의 시는 전통주의적 맥락에서 그 나름의 중요한 위치를 확보하고 있었다. 박재삼 초기작에 나타난‘자연관’은 서정주의 경우처럼 민족주의적 원형의 상상적 세계로 회귀하지 않고, 삶과 죽음이라는 순환론적 생의 인식을보편적 삶의 차원으로 그려내고 있다. 즉 박재삼의 초기작에는 ‘춘향’과 ‘한’으로 상징되는 전통적 정서를 다루면서도 민족주의적 이념으로 수렴하지 않고 삶과 죽음의 문제, 현실적 삶의 고통과 괴로움이라는 문제를 ‘자연’이라는 순환적 세계의 영속성으로 위로하는 보편적 세계의 인식으로 이어지고 있다. 이는 1950년대의 배경에서 전후 피폐한 삶의 현실과 개인적 체험으로 겪게 되는 전후 세대의 불행과 아픔을 위로하고, 삶의 의지를 발견하게 하는 보편적 세계관의 일환인 ‘자연’을 창조하고 전후 전통담론의 계승을 모색한 박재삼의 문학적 성과라 하겠다.

영문 초록

This study tried to reveal the traditional image and emotion embodied in the early works of Park Jae-sam, a representative poet of traditionalism in the 1950s. Park Jae-sam, who inherited the genealogy of Seo Jeong-ju and Jo Ji-hoon s traditional poetry, created a unique sense of chastity by drawing a poetic world using traditional narratives such as Chunhyangjeon and Simcheongjeon with sadness and sorrow as the main emotions. The sadness that Park Jae-sam portrays has a unique emotional system. By arranging the inexhaustible distance between the object of hope and the person who desires it in a poem, he dissolves the motives of sadness of the subject matter or subject in the tension of language. Through this semantic structure, the specific sadness that originates from individual experiences is not limited to one individual, but is transferred to the form of universal emotion that is potentially inherent in everyone. What Park Jae-sam pays attention to can be said to be ‘han’, a Korean type of universal emotion. Park Jae-sam s poems show that the lyrical tradition of modern poetry after Seo Jeong-ju has been inherited not only on the material dimension, but on the essential dimension. The fact that he was obsessed with traditional sentiments can be found when considering the circumstances of the 1950s. The ‘view of nature’ that appeared in Park Jae-sam’s early works does not return to the imaginary world of nationalistic archetypes as in the case of Seo Jeong-ju, but depicts the cyclical perception of life and death as a universal life dimension. In other words, Park Jae-sam s early works dealt with the traditional emotions symbolized by Chunhyang and Han , but did not converge to nationalist ideology, but rather the problems of life and death and the pain and suffering of real life in the cyclical world of nature . It leads to the perception of a universal world that is comforting with permanence. In the background of the 1950s, it creates nature , a part of the universal worldview that comforts the misfortunes and pains of the post-war generations, and discovers the will to live, as well as the realities of post-war life and personal experiences. It is a literary achievement of Park Jae-sam who sought succession.
