국문 초록

2020년 개봉한 <남매의 여름밤>은 국내외에서 좋은 평가로 주목받은 영화이다. 사별 후 홀로 지내는 할아버지의 오랜 집에서 병기-미정 부모 세대 남매와 옥주-동주 어린 남매가 함께 보내는 소소하고 일상적인 여름날을 그리고 있다. 이 3세대의 이야기는 이제는 사라져가는 가족의 형태를 다루면서도 보편적인 정서를 반영한 이야기로 관객에 따라 자신의 추억을 상기하게 만드는 공감을 자아낸다. 이 영화의 주요 공간 배경인 ‘집’은 가족의 역사와 감정의 흐름을 투영하는 또 다른 등장인물과 같은 역할을 하고 있다. <남매의 여름밤> 속 집은 영원/소멸, 비밀/누설의 양가성을 넘나드는 헤테로토피아이자 토포필리아로 작동한다. 집은과거-현재-미래를 넘나드는 기억의 저장소로서, 감정의 매개자로서 가족의 서사를 연결해주고 있다. 이 영화의 주요화자인 옥주는 이 장소를 탐색하면서 점진적으로 자신의 토포필리아를 만들어 간다. 그 안에서 생동하는 옥주의 가변적이고불안정한 감정의 경계는 그 누구에게나 활성화되어 있는 부분이다. 때문에 이 영화의 정서가 낯설지 않은 것이다. 현대 사회에서 상실과 내적 결핍은 인간 삶을 관통하는 중요 키워드가 되었고 이러한 감정적 정서를 토대로 <남매의여름밤>은 이야기를 구축한다. 이 영화는 ‘시간’과 ‘일상’을 기록하는 ‘집’의 재현방식을 풀어내는 가운데 가족과 일상의의미에 대한 잔잔한 사유를 던져주고 있다.

영문 초록

Released in 2020, (English title is ‘Moving On’) is a film that received good reviews both at home and abroad. In the old house of her grandfather, who lives alone after the death of her grandfather, the brothers and sisters of the undecided parent generation and the younger siblings Ock-ju and Dong-ju spend a summer day together. The story of this third generation is a story that reflects universal emotions while dealing with the now disappearing form of the family, reminding the audience of their own memories. The house in functions as a heterotopia and topophilia that crosses the ambivalence of eternity/extinction, secret/leakage. The house is a repository of memories that crosses past-present-future, and connects the narratives of the family as a mediator of emotions. Ock-ju, the main narrator of this film, gradually creates his own topophilia while exploring this place. The boundary between the variable and unstable emotions of Ock-ju, who is alive in it, is an active part for everyone. Therefore, the sentiment of this film is not unfamiliar. In modern society, loss and inner deficiency have become important keywords that penetrate human life, and builds a story based on these emotional emotions. While unraveling the way of reproducing ‘house’, which records ‘time’ and ‘everyday life’, this film gives a thought about the meaning of family and daily life.
