시선추적 기법과 회상적 사고 구술을 활용한 외국인 학부생 대상 요약하기 양상 분석

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 시선추적 기법과 회상적 사고 구술을 활용하여 외국인 학부생의 요약하기 양상을 관찰하고 학술적 글쓰기에서의 요약하기 교육을 위한 시사점을 제시하고자 한다. 방법 외국인 학부생 6명을 대상으로 시선추적 기법을 활용하여 이들의 요약하기 과정을 관찰하였다. 그리고 회상적 사고 구술을 함께 실시하여 요약문 쓰기 과정에서 어떠한 양상이 나타나는지를 구체적으로 검토하였다. 결과 분석 결과, 외국인 학부생에 따라 요약하기 과정에서 계획, 요약, 수정의 단계가 복합적으로 나타날 뿐 아니라 세 단계가 나타나지 않는 경우도 존재함을 확인하였다. 이때 단계별 요약하기를 구체적으로 살펴보면, ‘계획’ 단계에서는 읽기 텍스트의 ‘구조’에 집중하는 경향이 나타났고, ‘요약’ 단계에서는 ‘수정’ 단계가 동시에 나타나기도 하였다. 결론 학술적 글쓰기 교육에서의 완성도 있는 요약하기 수행을 위하여 ① 훑어 읽기 전략 교육, ② 바꿔 쓰기 전략 교육, ③ 세부 내용 활용에 대한 이해, ④ 다양한 수정하기 방법에 대한 교육이 필요할 것이다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study aims to analyze the summarizing process among foreign undergraduate students using eye-tracking technology and retrospective think aloud for academic writing education. Methods This study observed the summarization process of six international undergraduate students using eye-tracking techniques. Additionally, retrospective think-aloud protocols were conducted to examine the specific patterns that emerged during the summary writing process. Results The analysis revealed that the summarization process varied among the students, showing a complex interaction of planning, summarizing, and revising stages, and in some cases, certain stages were entirely absent. Specifically, during the ‘planning’ stage, students tended to focus on the ‘structure’ of the reading text, while the ‘summarizing’ stage often overlapped with the ‘revising’ stage. Conclusions Therefore, to perform complete summarizing, ① Education on skimming, ② Education on paraphrasing, ③ Understanding of the use of detailed content, and ④ Education on various revising methods are needed
