교양 영어 수업에서 대학생들의 상호 동료 교수법 경험에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 가르치는 경험이 배우는 경험보다 교육적 효과가 클 것이라는 가정하에 교양 영어 수업에서상호동료교수법을 적용하고 대학생들에게 가르치는 체험의 의미가 무엇인지 알아보는 데 있다. 이를 위해 인간의인식과 체험을 본질적인 주제로 삼는 현상학적 연구 방법을 사용하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대학생들은 영어를 동료에게 가르치는 경험의 과정을 통해 학습적인 측면에의 긍정적 효과를 얻은 것으로 나타났다. 구체적으로 학습 내용 습득의 수월과 정확한 이해, 그리고 기억에 용이하다는 점이다. 둘째, 연구참여자들의 가르치는 경험은 정의적 측면에서의 효과로도 나타났는데, 영어학습 동기와 자신감 그리고 능동적 학습 태도에 긍정적인영향을 미쳤음을 확인하였다. 셋째, 연구참여자들은 물론 연구자도 의도하지는 않았지만, 인성적인 측면에서 긍정적인 효과가 나타났다는 것은 미래 사회가 요구하는 바른 인성을 바탕을 둔 인재 양성과 맥락을 같이 한다는 점에서 의미 있는 결과가 도출되었다고 할 것이다. 넷째, 앞서 언급한 긍정적인 효과에도 불구하고 동영상 촬영의쑥스러워하는 감정과 미경험에서 비롯된 가르치는 것에 대한 두려움은 상호동료교수법 적용에서 극복되어야 할 부분으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 사범대가 아닌 비사범대 학생들을 대상으로 가르치는 경험의 본질을 규명하려고 했다는 점에서 의미를 찾을 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to apply a reciprocal peer teaching method in general English classes and to investigate the meaning of college student’s experience on teaching provided that the teaching experience has a great educational effect than the learning one. For this purpose a phenomenological research method, which takes human perception and experience as an essential subject, was used. The results are as follows. First, it showed that the participants obtained positive effects on the learning aspect, that is, easy contents acquisition, accurate understanding of contents knowledge, and long-term retention of contents. Second, they had a positive impacts on the affective domains such as increased motivation in English language learning, confidence of English study, and transformation into active learners. Third, it was found that preparing to teaching others helped their characters to become mature. That is, they had an empathy for their teachers’ load over instruction and they were more considerate towards their colleagues. Fourth, in spite of the positive effects mentioned above, they felt shy in front of smartphone camera shooting and were the fear about becoming a role of teaching others. The significance of this study can be found in the fact that it tried to clarify the essential meaning of teaching experience for college students who are not majoring in education.
