작은학교에 대한 강원도 초등교사의 인식 연구

국문 초록

목적 본 연구의 목적은 작은학교에 대한 교사들의 인식을 알아보고자 하는 것으로, 강원도 작은학교 초등교사들을 대상으로 작은학교의 장점 및 단점을 알아보고 작은학교 근무 시 경험했던 어려움을 조사한 후, 교사들이 생각하는 작은학교의 활성화 방안에 대해 탐구해보고자 한다. 방법 이를 위하여 강원도 작은학교에서 현재 근무중이거나 이전에 근무했었던 경험이 있는 초등교사 10명을 대상으로 개방형 질문으로 구성된 서면인터뷰 설문을 실시하고, 10명 중 3명을 대상으로 반구조화된 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 수집된 연구 자료는 키워드를 바탕으로 분석하여, 연구 질문에 따라 응답을 범주화하여 결과를 제시하였다. 결과 연구 참여자들은 작은학교에서 근무하는 것에 대해 만족하는 이유로 협조적인 학교 분위기, 학급 운영의 자율성, 학생 맞춤형 학습의 가능성을 이야기했으며, 과도한 업무량, 잦은 체험학습 및 외부 행사참여의 부담감, 학교 내 제한적인 인간관계 등은 작은학교에서의 생활에 있어 불만족스러운 이유로 제시되었다. 그리고 작은학교 근무 시 경험했던 어려움 점들로는 구성원에 따라 달라지는 학교 분위기, 학습 분위기 조성의 어려움, 학생 생활 지도의 어려움 등이 있었다. 또한 본 연구에 참여한 교사들은 작은학교 활성화 방안으로써 작은학교만의 특성을 살릴 수 있는 프로그램 고안, 작은학교 교사의 행정 업무 지원 대책 마련, 그리고 인근 학교와의 주기적인 교류 기회 확대를 제시하였다. 결론 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 강원도 초등교사들이 작은학교에서의 생활에 만족할 수 있는 제도 및 복지와 관련된 정책 마련에 도움을 주고, 강원도 작은학교만의 특색있는 교육활동을 지속할 수 있는 효율적인 교육과정 운영 방안을 모색할 수 있기를 기대해본다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate teachers' perceptions of small schools by examining the advantages and disadvantages of small schools among elementary school teachers and by scrutinising the difficulties they experienced while working in small schools in Gangwon-do, and to explore how to activate small schools. Methods To this end, a written interview survey consisting of open-ended questions was conducted with 10 elementary school teachers who are currently working or have previously worked in small schools in Gangwon-do. In addition, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 3 out of 10 participants. The collected research data was analysed based on keywords, and the responses were categorised according to the research questions. Results Participants cited a collaborative school atmosphere, autonomy in classroom management, and the possibility of personalised learning for students as reasons for their satisfaction with working in a small school, while excessive workload, the burden of frequent field trips and participation in external events, and limited interpersonal relationships at school were cited as reasons for their dissatisfaction. Moreover, the difficulties experienced while working in a small school were the school atmosphere that changed depending on the members, the difficulty in creating a learning atmosphere among students, and the difficulty in guiding student life at school. In addition, the teachers who participated in this study suggested devising educational programs that can make use of the characteristics of small schools, preparing measures to support the administrative work of small school teachers, and expanding opportunities for regular exchanges with nearby schools as ways to activate small schools. Conclusions It is hoped that the results of the study will be able to help elementary school teachers in Gangwon-do prepare policies related to the system and welfare that can satisfy them with their life in small schools, and to find efficient ways to operate the curriculum that can continue the distinctive educational activities of small schools in Gangwon-do.
