대학생들의 영어 학습 앱에 대한 인식

국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 대학생들의 스마트폰 앱을 활용한 영어 학습에 대한 이용 현황 및 인식을 조사하였다. 방법 이를 위해 경기도 소재 한 대학의 학생들을 대상으로 조사하여 앱을 이용한 경험이 있는 384명의 결과를 분석하였다. 분석은 Jamovi 프로그램을 이용하였고, 각 문항별 응답의 성별, 영어능력 수준별, 대학별 차이를 비교하였다. 결과 약 75%의 학생들이 앱을 다운받아 사용해 본적이 있으며 주로 1-2개의 앱을 다운받아 3개월 이하의 기간 동안 이용하며 간헐적으로 접속하며 10-20분간 이용한다는 응답이 가장 많았다. 앱을 선택시 학습 희망 영역은 어휘, 회화 순이었으며, 앱 선택에 영향을 주는 요소로는 수준별 학습을 제공하는지가 가장 중요하였으며 다음이 광고가 적은지였다. 앱 사용에 대한 만족도에서는 앱 사용에 대한 긍정적 인식을 확인하였고, 앱의 시공간적 제약없는 편리함이 가장 컸으며, 다음으로 수준별 학습이 가능한지가 중요하였다. 앱 사용의 불편함에서는 광고가 많다는 점이 가장 컸으며, 앱 내용, 앱 내용의 수준에 관한 부분도 불편하다고 인식하고 있다. 앱을 이용하는 목적은 학습이므로 앱 이용시 학습 효과를 높이기 위한 인식도 조사하였는데, 앱 학습에서 가장 효과적인 영어 영역은 어휘, 작문의 순서라고 인식하였다. 또한, 앱 사용시 가장 중요한 요인은 학습자 관련 요인으로 본인의 학습의지와 자기주도적 학습 능력을 가장 크게 보고 있다. 결론 학생들은 앱을 통해 영어를 학습하는 것에 대해 긍정적이나 앱을 지속적으로 이용하지 않는 보조적 학습 수단으로 인식하고 있다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 앱을 통한 영어 학습에 필요한 제언을 추가하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study investigated the usage and perceptions of university students regarding learning English through smartphone apps. Methods To achieve this, a survey was conducted with students from a university in Gyeonggi Province, and the results from 384 students who had experience using apps were analyzed. The analysis was performed using the Jamovi program, comparing the differences in responses for each question based on gender, English proficiency levels, and colleges of similar majors. Results About 75% of the students had downloaded and used an app, with most students downloading 1-2 apps and using them intermittently for periods of 10-20 minutes over less than three months. The most desired learning areas when selecting an app were vocabulary and conversation. The most important factors in choosing an app were whether it offered level-based learning and the presence of minimal advertisements. Regarding satisfaction with app usage, students had a positive perception, finding the convenience of learning without time and space constraints to be the most significant benefit, followed by the ability to learn according to their level. The biggest inconvenience noted was the prevalence of advertisements, along with concerns about the app's content and its appropriateness for their level. Since the primary purpose of using these apps was learning, the survey also investigated how to enhance learning effectiveness. Vocabulary and writing were perceived as the most effective areas of English learning via apps. Additionally, the most important factors for effective app use were learner-related, such as their motivation and ability to engage in self-directed learning. Conclusions Students have a positive perception of learning English through apps, but they regard apps as a supplementary learning tool that is not used continuously. Based on the results of this study, recommendations for improving English learning through apps were added.
