한국어 읽기 전략의 중요도-수행도에 따른 학습자 교육 요구도 분석 연구

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 외국어로서 한국어 학습자의 읽기 능력 향상을 위한 읽기 전략 교수-학습 모듈 개발의 기초 연구로, 한국어 학습자의 읽기 전략에 대한 중요도 및 수행도를 분석하여 학습자의 교육적 우선순위 요구를 도출하고 교육적 함의를 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 방법 이를 위하여 부산 지역 대학의 한국어 교육 기관에 재학 중인 외국인 학습자 165명을 대상으로 한국어 읽기 전략의 중요도와 수행도에 관한 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 조사 결과를 토대로, SPSS 23.0 및 R을 활용하여 t-검정, IPA(Importance-Performance Analysis), Borich 요구도 분석을 수행하였으며, 이를 통해 한국어 학습자의 수준별 읽기 전략에 대한 교육적 우선순위 요구를 도출하였다. 결과 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저, 초급 학습자의 우선순위 교육 요구 항목은 ‘글을 읽는 목적 정하기’, ‘메모하며 읽기’, ‘요약하며 읽기’, ‘사실과 의견 구분하며 읽기’, ‘글에서 알게 된 새로운 정보를 정리하기’로 나타났다. 다음으로, 중급 학습자의 우선순위 교육 요구 항목은 ‘글을 읽는 목적 정하기’, ‘제목이나 그림을 통해 전체 글을 훑어보고 내용 예측하기’, ‘메모하며 읽기’, ‘요약하며 읽기’, ‘사실과 의견 구분하며 읽기’, ‘읽은 내용을 기억하기 위해 장면을 떠올리기’, ‘글에서 알게 된 새로운 정보를 정리하기’로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 고급 학습자의 우선순위 교육 요구 항목은 ‘글을 읽는 목적 정하기’, ‘제목이나 그림을 통해 글을 미리 살펴보고 내용 예측하기’, ‘중요한 단어를 먼저 파악하고 전체 의미를 이해하기’, ‘메모하며 읽기’, ‘요약하며 읽기’, ‘사실과 의견 구분하며 읽기’, ‘의미 관계를 이해하기 위해 그림 지도나 표로 정리하기’, ‘읽은 내용을 기억하기 위해 장면을 떠올리기’, ‘글에서 알게 된 새로운 정보를 기억하기’로 나타났다. 결론 그동안 한국어 학습자의 읽기 전략에 관한 다양한 연구가 이루어졌으나, 학습자가 인식하는 읽기 전략의 중요도와 수행도를 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 교육적 우선순위를 도출하는 연구는 상대적으로 부족했다. 이에 따라 본 연구의 결과는 한국어 교육 분야에서 읽기 전략 교수-학습 모듈 개발과 교육 내용 구성에 중요한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study aims to provide a foundational investigation for the development of a reading strategy teaching-learning module designed to enhance the reading proficiency of Korean language learners as a foreign language. Specifically, the study seeks to identify the prioritized educational needs of learners based on the relative importance and performance of various reading strategies, and to elucidate the educational implications derived from these findings. Methods To accomplish this, a survey was administered to 165 international students enrolled in Korean language programs at universities in Busan, evaluating the importance and performance of various reading strategies. The data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and R, employing t-tests, Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA), and Borich Needs Assessment Analysis to identify the educational priorities of Korean language learners at different proficiency levels. Results The key findings are as follows: First, the priority educational needs for beginner-level learners, as determined through the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) of Korean reading strategies, included five items: determining the purpose of reading, taking notes while reading, summarizing while reading, distinguishing between facts and opinions, and organizing new information learned from the text. Second, for intermediate-level learners, the priority educational needs consisted of seven items: determining the purpose of reading, previewing the text by examining the title or images and predicting the content, taking notes while reading, summarizing while reading, distinguishing between facts and opinions, visualizing scenes to enhance retention of the text, and organizing new information learned from the text. Third, the priority educational needs for advanced-level learners included nine items: determining the purpose of reading, previewing the text by examining the title or images and predicting the content, identifying key words and understanding the overall meaning, taking notes while reading, summarizing while reading, distinguishing between facts and opinions, organizing relationships of meaning using diagrams or charts, visualizing scenes to improve retention of the text, and organizing new information learned from the text. Conclusions While previous studies have examined reading strategies for Korean language learners, there remains a gap in research that prioritizes educational content based on the relative importance and performance of these strategies. The findings of this study provide essential foundational data for the development of reading strategy teaching-learning modules and for the structuring of content within the field of Korean language education.
