〈모범택시〉에 나타난 응보적 정의의 구현 양상과 그 의미

국문 초록

2000년대 이후 사적 복수라는 소재는 한국 텔레비전드라마 안에서 자주 다루어진 소재이다. SBS 드라마 <모범택시> 역시 이러한 문제를 본격적으로 다룬 작품으로 우리 사회에서 실제로 벌어졌던 여러 강력 범죄 사건들을 모티프로 삼아 사건의 주요 정황 대부분을 드라마에 그대로 반영해 내고 있다. 이 작품은 범죄 피해자들이 연대하여다른 피해자들의 복수를 대행해 주는 과정을 그림으로써, 현재 형벌 제도가 갖는 한계를 비판하고 나름의 대안을제시한다는 점에서 주목할 만하다. 특히 극악한 범죄자들의 교정, 교화 가능성 자체를 불신하며 강력한 응징과 사회적 격리를 통해서만이 진정한 정의가 구현될 수 있다고 주장하고 있다. 다만 사설 감옥을 운영하기 위해 악인과거래하는 과정에서 그들이 내세우는 정의의 정당성이 다소 훼손되는 것은 분명하다. 그럼에도 불구하고 드라마는공권력과 연대하여 악인을 징치함으로써, 과거의 문제를 보완하여 무분별한 복수가 아닌 정당한 응보를 이어가고자 한다. 물론 피해자에 대한 지원 및 가해자에 대한 처벌의 문제를 신랄히 비판하며 강력 범죄를 둘러싼 여러 시사점을 준다는 점에서 이 드라마는 그 자체로도 충분한 의미를 지닌다. 그러나 범죄가 발생되기까지의 사회적 시스템의 문제를 상대적으로 축소하여 보여주거나 가해자의 악행만을 선정적으로 다루어 복수의 통쾌함에만 집중하게 만든다는 점은 비판적으로 바라보아야 한다. 또한 드라마의 모티프가 된 실제 사건을 재현함에 있어 관련 피해자를 향한 드라마의 태도, 재현의 윤리 역시 다시금 고민해야 할 부분일 것이다.

영문 초록

Since the 2000s, the subject of private revenge has been frequently dealt with in Korean television dramas. SBS drama “Mobeum Taxi(Model Taxi)” is also a work dealing with this problem and reflects most of the main circumstances of the incident in the drama by using various violent crime cases that actually took place in our society as motifs. This work is noteworthy in that it presents its own alternative by criticizing the limitations of the current punishment system by painting the process of crime victims jointly and acting on behalf of other victims. In particular, they distrust the possibility of correction and edification of violent criminals and argue that true justice can only be implemented through strong retaliation and social isolation. However, the legitimacy of the retribution justice they put forward in the process of dealing with the wicked to run a private prison is somewhat undermined. Nevertheless, the drama aims to continue revenge by punishing the wicked in solidarity with the public power and supplementing the problems of the past. Of course, this drama is meaningful enough in that it gives various implications to our society by criticizing the issue of support for victims and punishment for perpetrators. However, it relatively reduces and shows the problems of the social system until a crime occurs or sensationally deals with the perpetrator s evil behavior to focus only on the joy of revenge. Thus, it is problematic in that it makes us think about the ethical issues of victims related to actual events that have become the motif of the drama.
