노인 연령차별주의 개선을 위한 초등 사회과 미디어 리터러시 교육 참여 경험에 대한 내러티브 연구

국문 초록

목적 초등학생들의 노인 연령차별주의 실태와 형성 과정을 파악하고 이를 개선하기 위한 미디어 리터러시 교육을 실행하여 교육 참여 경험에 담긴 의미를 심층적으로 탐구하였다. 방법 대전광역시에 소재한 초등학교의 6학년 학생을 대상으로 연령차별주의 개선을 위한 미디어 리터러시 수업을 실행하고 참여 관찰과 심층 면담을 통해 교육 참여 경험의 의미를 이해하는 내러티브 연구를 수행하였다. 결과 연령차별주의 개선을 위한 미디어 리터러시 교육은 노인 편견의 실체와 형성과정을 비판적으로 성찰하는 과정이며, 미디어가 노인에 대한 부정적인 편견을 조장하여 왜곡된 현실을 재현하고 있음을 깨닫는 ‘미디어 바로보기’의 과정이다. 그리고 노인들의 이질적이며 다양한 삶의 모습을 인식하고 노인에 대한 고정적⋅집단적 이미지를 적극적으로 해체해 가는 과정이자 연령차별주의에 맞서는 작은 목소리를 내는 과정이다. 결론 이 연구는 학교 밖과 미디어 세계 속에서 이루어지는 초등학생들의 연령차별주의 형성과정에 적극적인 교육적 개입이 필요함을 시사하며, 연령차별주의가 확산되는 문제의 해결 방안 역시 미디어에서 찾을 수 있음을 보여준다. 앞으로 사회과에서 고령화 현상을 가르칠 때는 노인의 사회적 기여, 노인 복지와 노인의 사회⋅정치적 권리 보장의 필요성에 대해 생각해 볼 수 있는 기회를 제공해야 하며, 온라인상에서 파생되는 혐오 표현의 생성과 사용의 문제점에 대해 심층적으로 다루어야 한다.

영문 초록

Objectives The meaning of the experience of participating in education was explored in depth by identifying the actual state and formation process of age discrimination in the elderly and implementing media literacy education to improve it. Methods Media literacy classes to improve age discrimination were conducted for sixth graders in elementary schools located in Daejeon Metropolitan City, and narrative studies were conducted to understand the meaning of educational participation experiences through participatory observation and in-depth interviews. Results Media literacy education to improve age discrimination is a process of critically reflecting on the reality and formation process of elderly prejudice and realizing that media is reproducing distorted reality by promoting negative prejudice against the elderly. In addition, it is a process of recognizing the heterogeneous and diverse aspects of life of the elderly and actively dismantling the fixed and collective image of the elderly, and a process of making a small voice against age discrimination. Conclusions This study suggests that active educational intervention is needed in the formation process of age discrimination among elementary school students outside of school and in the media world, and solutions to the problem of age discrimination can also be found in the media. In the future, social studies should provide an opportunity to think about the need for the social contribution of the elderly, welfare of the elderly, and guaranteeing the social and political rights of the elderly, and deal in-depth with the problems of the creation and use of hate expressions derived online.
