국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 부모의 미디어 교육 경험이 아동의 미디어 이용 행태에 미치는 다양한 효과를 확인하고, 아동의 미디어 이용 조절 능력에 영향을 미치는 예측변인들을 살펴보았다. 방법 이를 위하여 2020년 8월에 만 3세 ~ 만 9세의 보호자 2161명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시한 한국언론진흥재단의 <2020 어린이 미디어 이용 조사> 데이터를 이용했다. 연구문제 해결을 위해 신뢰도 분석, T-test, 위계적 회귀분석을 사용했다. 결과 미디어 교육을 받은 부모의 아동은 컴퓨터·스마트폰·태블릿 PC 등 디지털 미디어 매체와 포털·메신저·SNS·게임 등 다양한 플랫폼 및 서비스를 더 자주 이용하는 경향이 있었다. 반면 미디어 교육을 받지 않은 부모의 아동은 상대적으로 텔레비전과 온라인 동영상 플랫폼을 더 자주 이용했다. 미디어 교육을 받은 부모는 아동의 미디어 이용 과정에 보다 적극적으로 개입하고, 미디어의 영향력을 긍정적으로 평가하는 경향이 높았다. 아동의 미디어 조절 능력을 높이는 데에는 부모의 미디어 이용 제한 및 통제, 부모의 미디어 이용 지도, 아동의 미디어 교육 경험이 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 예측변인으로 확인되었다. 결론 부모의 미디어 교육 경험은 아동의 미디어 이용에 다양한 영향을 미치고 있다는 것을 실증적으로 검증했다. 또한 아동이 능동적으로 미디어를 이용할 수 있는 조절 능력을 높이기 위해서는 부모가 평소 가정에서 아동의 미디어 이용에 대해 제한·통제 및 지도를 하고, 아동에게 미디어를 바르게 이용할 수 있는 교육을 실행하는 것이 효과가 있었다. 이러한 결과는 미디어 과이용·과의존에 대한 염려가 커지고 있는 다매체 디지털 미디어 시대에 아동 스스로 미디어 이용을 적절하게 조절할 수 있는 힘을 기를 수 있는 해결 방안을 제시했다는 것에 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purposes of this study were to examine the effects of parent’s media education experience on children’s media use and the variables that affect children’s ability to control media use. Methods For this purpose, data from the <2020 Children's Media Usage Survey> of the Korea Press Foundation, which conducted a survey on 2161 parents aged 3 to 9 years in August 2020, was used. To solve the research questions, Reliability analysis, T-test, and hierarchical regression analysis were used. Results Children of parents who received media education tended to use digital media such as computer, smartphone, and tablet PC, and various platforms and services such as portals, messengers, SNS, and games more often. On the other hand, children of parents without media education used television and online video platforms more often. Parents who received media education tended to be more actively involved in their children's media use process and positively evaluated the media's influence. Parents' media use restriction and control, parents' media use guidance, and children's media education experience were identified as predictive variables that had a positive effect on increasing children's media control ability. Conclusions It was empirically verified that parents' media education experiences had various effects on children's media use. In addition, in order to increase children's ability to actively use media, it was effective for parents to limit, control, and guide children's media use at home, and to educate children to use media properly. These results are significant in that they have presented a solution to help children develop the ability to appropriately control their media use in the era of multi-media digital media.
