건강 문해력이 낮은 노인을 위한 약물 교육이 약물 지식 및 약물 오·남용 행위에 미치는 효과

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 노인의 안전한 약물 복용을 위해 건강 문해력이 낮은 노인을 위한 약물교육 자료를 개발 및 적용하여 약물에 대한 지식 및 약물 오·남용 행위에 미치는 효과를 검증하였다. 방법 이를 위하여 비동등성 대조군 전후설계로 실험군 31명, 대조군 32명 총 63명을 대상으로 하였다. 건강 문해력이 낮은 노인을 고려한 그림 위주의 교육자료를 개발하여 실험군에게 약물교육을 제공하였으며, 대조군에게는 텍스트 기반의 전통적인 교육자료를 통한 교육을 제공하였다. 교육의 효과를 검증하기 위해 본인이 복용하는 약물에 대한 지식과 약물 오·남용 행위를 측정하였다. 결과 제 1가설 “건강 문해력이 낮은 노인을 위한 약물교육을 받은 실험군은 대조군과 약물지식 점수에 차이가 있을 것이다.”는 실험군과 대조군 간의 약물지식 점수에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타나(t=11.69, p<.001) 지지되었다. 제 2가설 “건강 문해력이 낮은 노인을 위한 약물교육을 받은 실험군은 대조군과 약물 오·남용 행위 점수에 차이가 있을 것이다.”는 실험군과 대조군 간의 약물 오·남용 행위 점수에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타나(t=-6.36, p<.001) 지지되었다. 결론 노인의 건강 문해력을 고려한 맞춤형 약물 교육이 약물에 대한 지식과 약물 오·남용 행위에 긍정적 변화를 유도할 수 있는 효과적인 방법임이 본 연구를 통해 확인되었으며 다양한 건강관련 교육에 활용될 수 있는 방안에 대한 추후 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of medication education for the elderly with low health literacy on medication knowledge and medication misuse & abuse behavior. Methods The subjects consisted of 63 older persons who registered in two community senior centers in D city. Thirty one older persons were assigned to the experimental group and 32 to the control group. The data were collected from Sep. 15th to Oct. 8th, 2010. The data were analyzed with SPSS 15.0 using χ2 test and independent t-test. Results There were statistically significant differences in medication knowledge and medication misuse & abuse behavior between the experimental group that received medication education tailored to low health literacy and the control group that received the education with text-based materials. Conclusions This study identified positive effects of tailored medication education for the elderly with low health literacy. The medication education tailored to health literacy can be used as an effective method to improve safe medication of the older adults.
