학습상황에서 피젯팅(Fidgeting)이 시험불안과 주의 집중력에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 시선 추적 기술(Eye Tracking)을 이용하여 힉습 과제 수행 중 피젯팅(Fidgeting)이 고등학생들의 과제에 대한 주의 집중력과 시험불안 수준에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 것이다. 2018년 2월부터 자료 조사를 시작하여 2018년 10월 18일에 실험을 진행하였다. 사용된 과제는 수능특강 영어 영역의 무관한 문장 찾기 유형 문제를 렉사일 지수 1000L-1100L 난도의 주제 찾기 유형 문제로 변형한 것으로, 피험자에게는 지문 속에 주제와 무관한 문장이 있다는 것을 알리지 않고 문제를 풀도록 하였다. 4개의 과제를 수행하는 동안 실험집단(n=8)은 피젯큐브(Fidget Cube)를 이용한 피젯팅을 허용하고 통제집단(n=7)은 피젯팅을 제지하였다. 과제를 수행하는 동안 나타나는 안구운동 데이터를 시선 추적기(Eye Tracker)를 이용하여 수집하였고, 이를 바탕으로 두 집단의 시선 고정 및 이동의 특성 차이를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 실험집단의 시험불안 수준이 과제 수행 전과 비교해 수행 후 높게 나타났으며, 피젯팅은 학습 과제 수행시 학생들의 주의 집중력을 높이는데 다소 효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 이 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 더욱 정교하고 창의적인 실험 설계를 통해 피젯팅과 시험불안과 주의 집중력의 관계를 밝혀낼 수 있는 연구가 이루어지기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of the study is to analyze the effect of fidgeting on the visual attention and test anxiety on high school students tasks during performing the tasks by tracking eye movements of students’ using the Eye Tracker. The task is solving a question of finding a subject of the text which is, in fact, transformed from an irrelevant sentence finding type question in the English section of the College Scholastic Ability Test with the Lexile Index 1000L-1100L difficulty. The subjects conducted four tasks in the condition of unknowing the existence of the irrelevant sentence until reading the text and catching the context while their eye movement data was collected by the Eye Tracker. We analyzed The characteristics of eye fixation of two group - experimental group that has been allowed to fidget by using Fidget Cube and control group that has been restrained from fidgeting during task performances - through IBM SPSS Statistics 20. Visual attention was assessed being categorized into three types: Selective Attention, Sustained Attention, Attention Switching. As a result, the experimental group that was allowed to fidget showed high level of test anxiety and compared to the control group that is restricted to fidget, visual attention - Selective Attention, Sustained Attention, and Attention Switching - of them was high. Based on this study, we hope that researches with more sophisticated and creative experimental designs be done to uncover the relationship among fidgeting, test anxiety(stress) and concentration of attention.
