부르디외의 장이론으로 본 NFT 아트의 가치 정립

국문 초록

본 연구는 미술품 경매회사가 NFT 아트를 적극적으로 수용하는 이유를 사회문화적 차원에서 이해하고자 한다. 이를 위하여, 부르디외의 장이론을 토대로 경매회사를 미술장의 행위자로 이해하고, 서울옥션에 관한 정성적 사례연구를 수행하였다. 연구 결과, 서울옥션은 NFT란 사회적 요구를 그대로 미술장에도입하기보다 기존 미술장에서 통용된 전문가 선택시스템을 통하여 미술장에 굴절한다. NFT 아트에 대한 가치가 미술장에서 인정받음에 따라 서울옥션은 상징자본을 축적하며, 이는 서울옥션이 미술장에서지배적 위치를 유지하는 재원으로서 작동한다. 동시에, 이런 서울옥션의 상징 투쟁은 NFT 아트의 거래를 기반으로 미술장으로 틈입하려는 신규 플랫폼에 대한 대항이기도 하다. 한편, 서울옥션은 언론을 통하여 미술장 외부로는 NFT 아트 거래의 정당성을 부여하기 위한 상징 투쟁을 하고 있다. 본 연구의 학술적 의의는 경매회사의 NFT 아트 수용에 관한 분석을 바탕으로 미술장 내부의 위계 구조와 미술장과외접하는 사회와의 관계를 이해하는 시도를 한 것에 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to gain insight into the reasons why art auction houses actively accept NFT art from a socio-cultural perspective. Drawing on Bourdieu's field theory, the auction house is viewed as an actor, and a qualitative case study on Seoul Auction was conducted. The study reveals that Seoul Auction does not simply introduce NFT to the field of art, but instead refracts it through an expert selection system commonly used in that field. As NFT art gains recognition in this field, Seoul Auction accumulates symbolic capital, which contributes to preserving its dominant position in the field of art. At the same time, Seoul Auction also faces a symbolic struggle against new platforms attempting to enter the field of art by trading NFT art. Furthermore, Seoul Auction is engaged in a symbolic struggle to legitimize NFT art transactions taking place outside the field of art through the media. The analysis of the acceptance of NFT art by auction houses contributes to a better understanding of the stratified order among actors in the field of art and the linkages between this field and the broader society that surrounds it.
