인터넷 중독 성향의 청소년 자녀를 둔 어머니 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 인터넷 중독 성향의 청소년 자녀를 둔 어머니가 어떠한 경험을 하는지 알아보고, 어머니 경험의 의미를 밝히고자 하였다. 방법 이를 위해 한국형 인터넷중독 자가진단검사(K-척도)를 어머니와 청소년 자녀에게 각각 실시하였으며, 그 결과가 어머니와 자녀 모두 ‘잠재적위험 사용자군’과 ‘고위험 사용자군’으로 나온 대상군 중 어머니를 대상으로 연구를 진행하였다. 인터뷰한 내용을 Giorgi의 현상학적 방법으로 분석하고자 하였으며, 총체적 의미 파악, 의미 구분, 학문적 용어변환, 일반적 구조 진술로의 통합 등 4단계 절차를 적용하여 분석하였다. 결과 연구 결과, 72개의 의미단위와 36개의 하위구성요소, 8개의 구성요소를 도출하였다. 8개의 구성요소는 ‘위기의식을 느낌’, ‘문제를 없애기 위한 대처’, ‘갈등의 악순환’, ‘어머니로서 무너지는 존재감’, ‘관계 속에서 점점 작아짐’, ‘어머니 역할에 대해 고민함’, ‘변화를 위한 시도’, ‘희망을 그림’ 등으로 나타났다. 이는 어머니들이 자녀의 인터넷 중독 성향 문제를 없애려고만 시도했을 때 오히려 악화되는 경험을 하였으며, 좌절스러운 상황 속에서 어머니의 역할에 대한 실존적인 고민을 통해 자녀와의 관계를 재설정하고자 할 때 회복의 선순환에 이르게 됨을 밝혔다. 결론 본 연구는 인터넷 중독 성향의 청소년 자녀를 둔 어머니가 어떠한 경험을 하는지에 대하여 구체적이고 심층적으로 탐색하여, 자녀의 인터넷 문제에 대한 어머니 대처 경험을 살펴봤다는 데 의의가 있다. 이 연구 결과를 토대로 인터넷 중독 성향의 청소년 자녀를 둔 어머니의 어려움을 해결할 수 있는 심리⋅교육적 개입 방향을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to find out what experiences of mothers of adolescents with Internet addiction tendencies and to reveal the meanings of mothers' experiences. Methods In order to achieve the purpose of the study, a Korean-style Internet addiction self-diagnosis test (K-scale) was conducted on mothers and adolescents, respectively. The results showed that both mothers and adolescents were “potential risk users” and “high risk users.”. Among them, a study was conducted on mothers. The interviews were analyzed using Giorgi's phenomenological method, and the four-step procedures were applied to grasp the overall meanings, distinguish the meanings, convert the academic terms, and integrate them into general structural statements. Results As a result of the study, 72 semantic units, 36 sub-components, and 8 components were derived. The eight components were “feeling a sense of crisis,” “response to eliminate problems,” “vicious cycle of conflict,” “collapsing presence as a mother,” “getting smaller in a relationship,” “considering mother's role,” “attempting to change,” and “picturing hope.” It was revealed that mothers experienced worsening experiences when they only tried to eliminate their children's Internet addiction problems, and that it led to a virtuous cycle of recovery when they tried to reset their relationship with their children through existential concerns about the mother's role in frustrating situations. Conclusions This study is meaningful in that it examined the mother's experiences in coping with Internet problems by exploring in detail and in-depth what experiences of mothers of adolescents with Internet-addiction tendencies. Based on the results of this study, psychological and educational intervention directions were presented to solve the difficulties of mothers of adolescents with Internet addiction tendencies.
