전일제 청소년동반자로 살아가는 경험에 대한 내러티브 탐구

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 두 명의 연구참여자가 어떠한 삶의 이야기를 구성하며 전일제 청소년동반자로 살아가는지 이해하고, 이를 통해 전일제 청소년동반자로 살아가는 경험의 의미를 탐구하기 위해 수행되었다. 방법 이를 위해 경험 이야기를 통해 삶의 맥락과 복잡성을 총체적으로 이해하기 적합한 Clandinin과 Connelly(2000, 소경희 외 역, 2007)의 내러티브 탐구 방법을 사용하였다. 결과 연구참여자들의 전일제 청소년동반자로 살아가는 경험 이야기 탐구를 통해 드러난 의미는 ‘대리 둥지에서 피어나 대리 둥지가 되다’, ‘자기 이해의 언어를 배우고 타인 이해의 길에 들어서다’, ‘삶의 복잡성, 끊이지 않는 현장의 고뇌’, ‘어제와 오늘의 나, 재구성 중인 정체성’ 총 네 가지로 구성되었다. 첫째, 연구참여자들은 삶의 초기에 결핍과 그 결핍을 채워주는 관계 경험을 통해 도움받는 자의 자리를 경험하였고 이후 내담청소년을 돕는 자리에 위치하였다. 둘째, 연구참여자들은 상담이론이라는 도구를 통해 자기 이해가 촉발되는 경험을 하였고, 이 경험은 이후 진로 결정이나 진로변경의 과정에서 상담의 길을 선택하는 중요한 계기로 작용하였다. 셋째, 연구참여자들은 전일제 청소년동반자로서 현장에서 내담청소년에게 상담을 어떻게 적용할지, 그리고 동료상담자들과 어떠한 관계를 맺어야 할지에 대해 끊임없이 고뇌하였다. 넷째, 연구참여자들은 현장에서 맞닥뜨리는 대상과 상황에서의 고뇌를 통해 매 순간 상담의 변용, 관계의 변형이라는 이야기를 살아냈고, 이러한 살아낸 이야기는 연구참여자들에게 체화된 지식이 되어 전일제 청소년동반자로서의 정체성은 끊임없이 재구성 중이다. 결론 본 연구는 시간제와는 업무 특성이 다른 전일제 청소년동반자의 삶의 이야기를 따로 구분 지어 깊이 들여다봄으로써 이들 경험의 의미를 생생하고 통합적으로 이해할 수 있었다는 데 의의가 있다. 또한 이를 통해 드러난 전일제 청소년동반자의 업무 부분에 대한 실천적 논의점을 고찰하였다. 본 연구를 통해 전일제 청소년동반자로 살아가는 경험에 대한 이해가 확장되며 청소년동반자 프로그램과 상담 분야의 발전에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study was conducted to understand the life stories of two research participants and how they live as full-time youth companions, and to explore the meaning of the experience of living as full-time youth companions. Methods For this purpose, this research adopted Narrative Inquiry method of Clandinin and Connelly (2000), which is suitable for holistically understanding the context and complexity of life through experiential stories. Results The meaning revealed through the study of the participants' experiences of living as youth companions was ‘Blooming from a surrogate nest and becoming a surrogate nest’, ‘Learning a language of self-understanding and entering the path of understanding others’, ‘The complexity of life and anguish’, ‘Yesterday and today’s me, identity being reconstructed’. First, the participants experienced being helped through relationships that filled the deficit in the early stages of life, and then they were placed in a position to help the youth client. Second, the participants experienced self-understanding through counseling theory, and this experience led to the path of counseling in the course of career decision or career change. Third, as full-time youth companions, the participants constantly struggled with how to apply counseling to their youth and what kind of relationship they should have with their peer counselors. Fourth, as the participants living the story of the transformation of counseling and relationships at every moment they encountered in the field, identity as full-time youth companion is constantly being reconstructed. Conclusions This study is meaningful to understand the full-time youth companions vividly and integratedly with their life stories, who have different work characteristics from part-timers. In addition, practical discussion points were reviewed regarding the work of full-time youth companions. It is expected that this study will expand the understanding of the life as a full-time youth companion and help the development of youth companion programs and counseling fields.
