국문 초록

목적 본 연구의 목적은 전라북도 J시, D 어린이집 만 1세 영아들이 의사소통을 목적으로 사용하는 Baby Sign 사용에 대한 의미를 탐색하는 데 있다. 방법 이를 위하여 선행연구 및 관련된 문헌들을 고찰하고, 만 1세 영아들의 Baby Sign 사용에 대한 관찰 자료를 수집한 후 Lincoln과 Guba(1985)의 질적 내용 방법을 토대로 분석하였다. 또한, Baby Sign의 의미를 심층적으로 분석하고 이해하기 위하여 문화기술적 연구방법(Ethnographic research method)으로 진행되었다. 결과 연구 결과 만 1세반 영아들의 Baby Sign 사용에 대한 의미는 다음과 같다. 첫째, Baby Sign은 영아기 어휘발달의 촉진제 역할을 해준다. 둘째, Baby Sign은 영아-교사와의 애착형성을 증진시켜다. 셋째, Baby Sign은 영아와 상호작용 시 의미를 다시 한 번 더 확인해 주어야 한다. 넷째, Baby Sign은 영아-교사와의 상호작용 경험에 의해 빈도와 유형이 정해진다. 다섯째, Baby Sign은 영아기 인지발달을 위해 필수적이다. 결론 본 연구의 결과는 만 1세 영아가 타인과 효과적으로 의사소통할 수 있도록 돕고, 영아와 상호작용하는 부모나 교사의 의사소통 능력 향상을 위한 기초자료로 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to conduct an inquiry into the meanings of baby sign uses by one-year-old infants for communication purposes in D Daycare Center, J City, Jeollabuk Province. Methods The study reviewed previous studies and related literature, collected observational data about the use of baby signs by one-year-old infants, and analyzed them according to the qualitative content method of Lincoln and Guba(1985). In addition, an ethnographic research method was adopted for the in-depth analysis and understanding of the meanings of baby signs. Results The study found the following meanings in the use of baby signs by one-year-old infants: first, baby signs facilitate the development of vocabulary in infancy; second, baby signs promote the formation of infant-teacher attachment; third, baby signs verify the meaning of interaction with infants; fourth, the frequency and type of baby signs depend on infant-teacher interaction experiences; finally, baby signs are essential to the cognitive development of infants. Conclusions The findings of the study may serve as useful basic data to help one-year-old infants communicate with others effectively and improve the communicative competence of parents and teachers interacting with infants.
