뭉크의 연작에 드러난 자기원형의 상징

국문 초록

에드바르트 뭉크(Edvard Munch)는 세계미술사에서 근대성을 대변하는 중요한 예술가이다. 본 연구는 융의 분석심리학 이론을 활용하여 뭉크의 후반기 그림을 분석하고, 예술가의 자기 실현 과정이 그림에 어떻게 상징을 통해 나타나는지를 보고자 하는데 목적과 의의를 둔다. 말년의 작품, 연작에 나타난 태양과 만다라에상징성을 비교하여 융의 개성화, 원형과 상징 이론으로 자기 실현을 고찰하였다. 뭉크의 인생 전반기 작품이 아닌, 1910년 이후 생기론에 영향을 받은 그의 후반기 작품, 연작을 다루었다. 작품은 내용과 형식으로 나누어 분석하였고, 내용은 그의 정신적 내면 표현의 의미를 알아보고, 형식은 주로 사용한 색과 형태와 구도를 만다라와 비교 분석하였다. 그리고, 태양과 만다라에 상징성을 비교하여 융의 개성화, 원형과 상징 이론으로 자기 실현을 고찰했다. 융의 분석심리학의 관점에서 보면 뭉크는 자신의 무의식을 인식하게 되고 그것을 이해하고 받아들이면서 내면의 치유가 가능했다. 그 일련의 과정들이 상징을 통해 드러나고 작품으로 표현되었다. 즉 내부의 인격이 통합되어 자기Self가 실현된 모습을 그의 후기 작품들을 통해 보여주고 있음을 알 수 있다. 뭉크의 그림처럼표현 상징주의 경향을 가진 작품들은 융의 분석심리학 이론으로 충분히 해석이 가능하다. 무의식 속의 원형을 창작의 원동력으로 불러내어 상징으로 드러난 작품들은 예술가의 자기실현 과정을 보여주고 있기 때문이다. 앞으로분석심리학을 통해서 다른 많은 작품들과 작가들을 분석해 볼 수 있는 기회가 주어지기를 기대해 본다.

영문 초록

Edvard Munch is an important artist representing modernity in the world art history. This study aims to analyze Munch’s paintings in the latter half of his life by using Jung’s theory of analytical psychology, and to see how the artist’s self-realization process appears through symbols in the paintings. By comparing the symbolism of the sun and mandala represented in a series of works in his later years, , this study examines Jung’s individuation, and the archetype and symbolic theory of self-realization. It deals with , a series of works created in the second half of his life, not those created in first half of his life. was influenced by post-1910 vitalism. In this study, the works are studied in two aspects: content and form. The artist’s inner world is discovered through the analysis of the content, and in terms of the form, the color, form and composition are compared with mandala. In addition, by comparing the symbolism of the sun and mandala, Jung’s individuation and self-realization are considered along with archetype and symbolic theory. From the perspective of Jung’s analytical psychology, Munch is thought to be aware of his unconsciousness and be able to heal his inner side while understanding and accepting it. This series of processes is revealed through symbols, and expressed in works. In other words, it can be seen that his later works show the realization of his self through integration of his internal personalities. Works with a tendency toward expression symbolism, like Munch’s, can be sufficiently interpreted through Jung’s theory of analytical psychology. This is because works using symbols representing the archetype of the unconscious as the driving force of creation show the artist’s self-realization process. In the future, the author of this study looks forward to having opportunities to analyze many other works and artists through analytical psychology.
