이청준 문학의 주체 전환을 향한 신화적 모색

국문 초록

이 논문은 이청준 문학의 주요 화두인 자기 목소리를 낼 수 없는 부끄러운 근대 주체와 국민이라는 규율화된 정체성을 생성하는 지배 담론의 속성을 살핀다. 특히 국민이라는 단일한 정체성의 강요를 ‘인간의 축소화’로 보고 이에 대해 이청준은 개별적 보편성을 지닌 주체로의 전환을 제시하며 그의 실현을 위한 문학적 모색으로 신화적 양식에 기대고 있음을 분석한다. 연구 대상은 단편 「마기의 죽음」과 희곡 「제3의 신(神)」으로 두 작품은 당대 국가 권력이 자행한 부당하고 폭압적인 사건을 알레고리화 한다. 국가권력 담론에 대해 피에르 브르디외의 언어와 상징권력의 속성 등을 대입하여 분석했다. 두 작품 속 상징 권력은 ‘예언, 임명, 금기’와 같은 방식으로 작동한다. 비가시적인 상징 권력은 주체에게 주술처럼 수행적 명령을 내리면서 하나의 담론에 예속되도록 한다. 이러한 상황은 주체의 부끄러움을 유발한다. 정치적인 전복을 위해서는 우선 주체의 인식과 세계관의 전환이 전제되어야 한다. 담론을 생성하는 상징 권력의 작동처럼 이를 해체하고 주체의 전환을 이끄는 것도 언어와 문자이다. 이청준 문학은 ‘명명, 선언, 단절하기’의 방식으로 담론의 해체를 시도한다. 이청준은 자기 증거하기로서의 문학 역시 현상적 지배질서로 변해버리는 언어와 문자의 배반을 두려워한다. 때문에 아직 도래하지 않은, 말할 수 없는 것을 증거하고, 그것은 고정된 문자로 남지 않고 사라져야 한다고 보았다. 이러한 문제에 대한 이청준의 문학적 해법 중 하나는 신화이다. 제3의 신과 같은 존재로 전환될 인간의 위치를 상정하려는 것 자체가 신화적이다. 각각의 개별적 직능으로 신의 자리에 좌정하는 인간과 관련된 우리나라 신화는 구술 장르로 많은 이본과 판본이 존재한다. 신의 이야기 속에 담아낸 신성을 닮고자 하는 인간의 존재론적 해법은 때와 장소, 듣는 이들에 의해 각각으로 해석되고 다시 이야기될 수 있다. 증거하지만 이내 길을 인도하고 사라지는 씻김질 같은 문학은 신화의 양식 차용으로 가능해진다. 이청준 문학은 신화적 양식을 차용해 보편적 개별성을 지닌 주체로의 전환을 추구하고 있다.

영문 초록

This paper examines of a shameful modern subject who cannot speak with his own voice, the main topic of Lee Cheong-jun’s literature, and the ruling discourse that creates a disciplined identity of the people. In particular, Lee Cheong-jun, who sees the single identity of the people as a “trivialization of human beings” suggests a shift to a subject with individual universality and analyzes that this subject is leaning on a mythical style as a literary quest for his realization. The subjects of the study are the short story “Death of Magi” and the play “The Third God” which allergized the unjust, and tyrannical events committed by the state power of the time. This text analyze the national power discourse by substituting Pierre Bredieu’s language and attributes of symbolic power. Symbolic power in the two works works in the same way as ‘a prophecy, an appointment, and a taboo.’ This non-visual symbolic power makes the subject subjugate to a discourse by giving a performative command like a spell. This situation causes the shame of the subjects. The subject’s perceptional overthrow and the transition of worldview are the prerequisites for political overthrow. It is languages and characters that lead the transition of the subjects, and Lee Cheong-jun is afraid his literature, which turn into a phenomenal dominance order. It is an aporia that one have to disappear without leaving it as fixed letters after proving what has not yet come and what has not been said. Myth is one of the literature solution that Lee Cheong-jun found. It is mythical to assume that a human being as to be converted into a third god. A myth is an oral genre that is not hardened by letters, and has many variants and editions. The ontological solution of human beings who want to resemble the divinity in the story of gods can be interpreted and re-talked in many ways by times, places, and listeners. His literature, like ‘sitgimjil’(healing and purifying) that testifies and disappears after leading the way, borrowed the style of myth. Lee Cheong-jun’s literature pursued the transition to a subject with universal individuality by borrowing mythical style.
