영화에 표현된 동양인 혐오 이미지에 대한 비평적 관점

국문 초록

본 연구는 영화 속 동양인의 이미지가 이데올로기와 맞물려 혐오스러운 이미지로 표현되고 있는 사례를 고찰했다. 영화는 대규모의 자본으로 생산되고 배급되는 상업성을 지닌 흥행 메커니즘에 의해 생산된다. 관객은 영화의 화려한 컴퓨터 그래픽 기술과 특수음향효과에 몰입하여 무의식적으로 이미지를 받아들인다. 동양인의 혐오스러운 이미지는 매체의 강력한 파급효과로 인해 세계로 확대될 우려가 있다. 영화에 나타난 동양인의 모습은 서구적인 시선에서 규정한 것으로 ‘동양인의 정체성’이 아니라 가공된 이미지다. 따라서 상업영화의 특성을 이해하고 잘못된 부분을 바로잡는 비판적인 사고, 기자회견, 평가와 여론 등으로 대처방안이 필요하다. 영화는 인류의 행복을 위한 발명품으로 영상예술의 가치를 지닌다. 인류가 평등하고 공존하기 위해 인종차별의 혐오 이미지를 바로잡고 동서양의 문화를 교류해야 한다. 이러한 논의는 동양인의 혐오 이미지에 대처하는 관객의 태도와 비평적 시각에 의미가 있다.

영문 초록

This study considered the case in which the image of Asians in movies is expressed as an abhorrent image in line with ideology. Movies are produced using a box office mechanism with commerciality that is produced and distributed on a large scale of capital. The audience unconsciously accepts images by immersing themselves in the movie’s spectacular computer graphics skills and special sound effects. The repulsive image of Asians is feared to expand to the world due to the powerful ripple effect of the media. The Asian figure in the movie is defined from a Western perspective and is not an “Asian identity” but a processed image. Therefore, it is necessary to develop critical thinking, press conferences, evaluations, and public opinion that understand the characteristics of commercial movies and correct the wrongs. Movies are an invention for the happiness of humankind and has the value of art. For humankind to be equal and coexist, we must correct the hateful image of racism and exchange cultures of the East and the West. These discussions are useful for improving the audience’s attitude and critical views in dealing with the Asian disgust image.
