비문해 노인의 ‘생애 첫 졸업장’ 에 대한 의미 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 성인 문해교육 초등학력 인정을 통해 ‘생애 첫 졸업장’을 받은 비문해 노인들에게 첫 졸업장이 어떠한 의미를 부여하는가에 대한 의미를 탐색하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위하여 연구자들은 현상학적 연구방법론에 기초하여 2015년 9월부터 2016년 6월까지 10개월 동안 성인중학교 학력인정 과정에 있는 4명의 학습자들의 교실일상을 관찰하고 심층면담을 진행하였다. 또한 문해교육의 법제도화가 학습자의 환경에 영향을 주어 학습자의 삶에 영향을 미치고 있음에 주목하여 졸업장의 의미를 해석하였다. 연구 결과, ‘생애 첫 졸업장’은 첫째, 평생 한(恨) 풀이로서의 학교에서 공부하기: 중학입학의 행복감. 둘째, 동창생에 대한 침묵의 소리에서 자기목소리: 배움공동체의 동질감. 셋째, 초등학력 인정 확인: 성취감. 넷째, 의존에서 혼자서도 잘해요: 해방감. 이를 통해 연구자들은 성인 문해교육 학력인정서의 의미는 노인학습자들에게 학력을 중시하는 한국사회에서 동창생을 가지는 사회적 자본을 획득하게 하고, 초등학교 졸업을 인정받음으로써 비문해 노인들은 비로소 한글을 안다는 인식변화가 일어남을 알 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study was performed to search for the meaning of the first ever graduation certificate of illiterate aged people through the acknowledgement of elementary school graduation by adult literacy education. For this, researchers observed class life of four learners who took the adult middle school qualification process after finishing adult literacy education for 10 months between Sep. 2015 and June 2016 based on phenomenal research methodology and performed in depth interviews. Additionally, the meaning of the first graduation certificate was interpreted considering that legislation of literacy education made effects on environments of learners. Researchers found the meaning of the first ever graduation certificate as follows; first, studying in school to realize their long time desire: to enter middle school. Second, from silence to their own voice when talking about alumni: school tied community. Third, Confirmation of elementary school: achievement. Fourth, from dependence to independence: sense of liberty. Through this, it is found that adult literacy education certificate means in Korean society which places much importance in education that illiterate aged people now have acquired social asset such as alumni and they had changed perception that they knew Hangeul with their elementary school graduation is acknowledged.
