‘좋은 수업’ 및 ‘좋은 교수’에 대한 성인학습자의 인식 연구: 메타포 분석을 중심으로

국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 ‘좋은 수업’ 및 ‘좋은 교수’에 관한 성인학습자의 인식을 통하여 성인학습자를 위한 교육프로그램 개선을 위한 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 방법 이를 위하여 2024년 9월 2일부터 9월 13일까지 부산광역시에 소재하는 K대학교에 재학 중인 성인학습자 149명을 표집하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 메타포 자료를 수집하기 위해 성인학습자들에게 ‘좋은 수업’과 ‘좋은 교수’에 대하여 각각 떠오르는 단어와 이유로 구성한 개방형 설문지를 작성하는 설문을 실시하고 분석하였다. 결과 ‘좋은 수업’에 대한 성인학습자의 인식연구에서는 ‘좋은 수업’에 대하여 총 60개의 단어로 답변하였으며, 이를 ‘삶의 지표를 제시’, ‘수업 시간의 효율적 관리’, ‘몰입할 수 있는 흥미 유발’, ‘눈높이에 맞는 교육과정 제공’, ‘실용성이 있는 지식 습득’, ‘전문성이 있는 교수법 제공’ 등 6개의 주제로 범주화하였다. 결과적으로 좋은 수업은 자신의 일상에 감동을 선사하고 자신의 삶의 방향을 제시해 주는 것이라고 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. ‘좋은 교수’에 대한 성인학습자의 인식연구에서는 ‘좋은 교수’에 대하여 총 40개의 단어로 답변하였으며. 이를 ‘친화력이 뛰어난 교수’, ‘전문성이 뛰어난 교수’, ‘공감능력이 뛰어난 교수’, ‘열정적으로 강의하는 교수’, ‘학생을 존중하는 교수’, ‘존경할 수 있는 교수’ 등 6개의 주제로 범주화하였다. 결과적으로 좋은 교수는 먼저 전문성이 뛰어나야 하는 것을 기본으로 강의에 열정을 가지고, 학생들과 상호작용이 잘 되고, 존경할 수 있는 교수라고 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 결론 분석결과에서 본 바와 같이 ‘좋은 수업’과 ‘좋은 교수’에 대한 성인학습자의 인식을 분석할 수 있었으며, 그 결과 교수자는 전문성과 열정으로 학생들에게 새로운 목표의식을 고취시켜 줄 수 있는 자질을 갖추고 삶의 지표에 보다 한 발짝 다가설 수 있는 학습자 맞춤형의 양질의 좋은 수업을 제공해야 한다. 추후 연구의 방향성과 후속연구에 대하여 제언하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study aims to suggest ways to improve educational programs for adult learners through the perceptions of adult learners regarding ‘good teaching’ and ‘good instructors.’ Methods To this end, a survey was conducted from September 2 to September 13, 2024, involving 149 adult learners enrolled at K University located in Busan. An open-ended questionnaire was administered to collect metaphorical data, asking adult learners to write down words and reasons that come to mind regarding ‘good teaching’ and ‘good instructors.’ Results The study on adult learners' perceptions of “good classes” collected responses consisting of a total of 60 words, which were categorized into six themes: “providing indicators for life,” “efficient management of class time,” “engaging interest that induces immersion,” “offering curriculum appropriate to learners' levels,” “acquisition of practical knowledge,” and “providing expertise in teaching methods.” Ultimately, it was found that a good class is perceived as one that inspires emotion in daily life and provides direction for one's life. In the study on adult learners' perceptions of “good teachers,” responses totaling 40 words were categorized into six themes: “approachable teacher,” “expert teacher,” “empathetic teacher,” “passionate lecturer,” “teacher who respects students,” and “teacher who is worthy of respect.” As a result, a good teacher is perceived as someone who first and foremost possesses expertise, is passionate about their lectures, interacts well with students, and is worthy of respect. Conclusions As seen in the analysis results, adult learners' perceptions of “good classes” and “good teachers” were examined. The findings suggest that instructors should possess the qualities of expertise and passion to inspire a sense of new goals in their students. They must provide high-quality, learner-centered classes that bring students one step closer to achieving their life indicators. Suggestions for future research directions and follow-up studies were also proposed.
