성격강점 활용 프로그램이 초등학생의 자기결정성에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 아동의 개별 대표강점에 초점을 맞춘 성격강점 활용프로그램을 실시하여 초등학생의 자기결정성이 향상되는지 효과성을 검증하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 방법 경기도 소재 초등학교 4학년 24명의 실험집단을 대상으로 성격강점 활용프로그램 10회기를 실시하였다. 실험설계를 통하여 수집된 사전, 사후 검사를 바탕으로 공변량 분석(Analysis of Covariance)을 실시하였다. 그리고 통계 결과를 보완하기 위하여 학생의 회기별 소감문, 프로그램 전체 평가와 연구자의 관찰 내용을 분석하였다. 결과 프로그램 실시 후 실험집단의 자기결정성 총점과 하위요인인 자율성, 유능성, 관계성 점수가 통제집단에 비하여 유의미하게 증가한 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 프로그램 설문 분석 결과 아동은 대표강점 활용 경험을 통하여 자율적으로 행동을 선택하고, 자신의 유능성을 인식하며, 주변과 관계가 증진되었음을 보고하였다. 결론 본 연구를 통해 대표강점을 인지하고 일상에서 지속적으로 활용함으로서 아동의 자기결정성이 증진될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 장기적인 펜데믹 상황으로 인해 정서적 어려움을 겪을 것으로 예상되는 초등학생에게 본 프로그램을 활용한 개입은 내적 동기와 흥미를 추구하는 건강한 학교생활을 회복하는데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Objectives The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of the character strength utilization program on self-determination and subfactors such as autonomy, competence, relatedness in elementary school students. Methods Pretest of self-determination was given out for two different classes of forth grade in elementary school, located in Gyeonggi-do. The researcher’s class of 24 students was set as experimental group and the other class of 24 students was set as control group. In the experimental group, the character strength utilization program was applied over 10 sessions for 4 weeks, and no treatment was given to the control group. After program both groups were subjected to self-determination post test. To verify the effectiveness of the program, analysis of Covariance(ANCOVA) was performed on the pre and post test. In addition to satisfaction of whole program and each session and observations of the researcher were analyzed to make up for the validity of the statistical analysis. Results First, The character strength utilization program has a significant effect on improving class cohesiveness. The experimental group showed a significant improvement in self-determination and its subfactors such as autonomy, competence, relatedness. Second, As a result of analyzing the program satisfaction and researchers' observations, utilization of signature strengths in the areas of relationships, learning, and career paths in daily life helped students autonomously chose their own actions, became aware of their abilities, and communicated positively with people. Conclusions This study verified the effect of promoting self-determination by allowing elementary school students to recognize their own signature strengths and continuously utilize them in their daily lives. Intervention using this program for elementary school students who are expected to experience emotional difficulties due to the long-term pandemic situation can contribute to recovering a healthy school life that pursues intrinsic motivation and interest.
