국문 초록

본 논문은 제프쿤스(Jeff Koons)의 작품에 나타난 에로티시즘(Eroticism) 고찰을 위한 연구의 일환이다. 인류 역사에 예술이 모습을 보이기 시작한 선사시대부터도 에로티시즘은 예술의 빼놓을 수 없는 주제로 그 위상을 가지고 있다. 인간의 가장 표면적이고도 본질적인 성격인 에로티시즘은 사람들을 예술로 끌어들이는 거대한화두이며, 인간 본질과 내면에 자리 잡은 무의식적 자아의 일면이다. 이는 오늘날 시각 예술의 새로운 지평을 여는데에 다양한 방식으로 작용하여 미술사학은 물론 현상학, 사회학적 방법론에 근거한 학자들의 연구의 주된 주제로자리매김 하기도 하였다. 제프쿤스는 작품에 대중들이 열광하는 대중매체의 에로틱한 이미지들을 다양하게 차용하는 방법으로 오랫동안미술사를 지배해왔던 엘리트주의적 관학 예술과 대중예술의 경계를 부정하고 대중의 의식 속으로 스며든다. 본 연구를 통해 제프쿤스 작품에 나타난 에로티시즘(Eroticism)을 고찰함으로서 그의 사상과 이념을 표현하기위한 하나의 자유로운 언어로 현대미술을 이해하는 데 유용한 시사점을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 나아가 인간의 욕망을개인적인 것으로 한정하는 전통에서 벗어나 자본과 사회, 상품 물신에의 찬미를 통해 동시대의 복잡한 욕망을 표현화한 그의 시도에서 그가 동시대 예술에 제안한 다원적이고도 복합적인 시각의 초석과 전개를 관조할 수 있을것이다.

영문 초록

This paper is part of the study of Eroticism in the work of Jeff Koons. Even in prehistoric times, when art began to appear in human history, eroticism had its status as an indispensable subject of art. Eroticism, the most superficial and essential character of mankind, is a huge topic which draws people to art, and is an aspect of the unconscious self that sits within the human essence. Nowadays, this serves to open new horizons for visual art in various ways, establishing itself as a major subject of scholars’ research based on phenomenology, sociological methodology, as well as art history. Jeff Koons’ work rejects the idea of boundaries between elitist official art and popular art, which have long dominated art history and permeates public consciousness by borrowing various erotic images of mass media. This study will give helpful pointers in order to understand contemporary art in a single free language which expresses one’s ideas and ideologies by considering Eroticism in Jeff Koons’ work. Furthermore, in his attempt to express contemporary complex desires through the praise of capital, society, and commodity objects, away from the tradition of limiting human desires to personal things, he could observe the foundation and development of multidisciplinary and complex views proposed for contemporary art.
