국문 초록

본 연구는 세태소설 <오유란전>에 나타난 여성 원귀 모티프의 서사적 변용과 그 의미를 살펴보고 조선조 한문소설에 나타난 여성 원귀 모티프의 지형이 가짜 원귀 소재를 통해 새로운 국면을 맞이하게 되었음을 밝히기 위한것이다. 여성 원귀 모티프가 등장하는 원귀 서사는 당대를 살았던 소외자들의 이야기이다. 억울한 사정을 토로할곳 없는 외롭고 고독한 소외자들의 사정은 ‘죽음’을 통해서만 목소리를 낼 수 있었다. 조선 후기 서민문화와 시정문화의 성장, 사대부 계급의 분화에 따른 士의 각성, 몰락양반이나 유랑 지식인의자기인식 등은 질탕한 웃음과 신랄한 풍자를 문화사적 현상의 하나로 만들었다. 상하층의 문화가 교섭 및 충돌을일으키며 웃음과 풍자가 대두되는 문화사적 흐름 속에서 한문소설에도 그러한 변화가 나타났고 대표적인 양식이세태소설이다. 이러한 경향의 작품에서는 이념과 욕망 사이에서 갈등하는 남성의 정절이 속임수에 의해 시험 받고결국에는 욕망에 굴복하고야 마는 내용이 주를 이루는데, <오유란전>에서는 남성을 훼절시키는 과정에서 가짜 원귀가 등장하여 애정담을 표방한다. <오유란전>에서 가짜 원귀 이야기는 결국 한순간의 해프닝으로 끝나고 만다. 이생은 오유란과 김생을 용서할뿐 아니라 이후로 흐트러진 정신을 가다듬고 정진하여 과거에 급제하고 지배계층으로 신분 상승에 성공하였다. 작품 속에서 원귀 모티프가 주를 이루지 않고 삽입된 에피소드 형식으로 등장하지만, 단순한 해프닝으로 넘어가기에는 담고 있는 문제의식이 가볍지 않다. 당대의 일반 문인들보다는 비교적 진보적·비판적 문제의식을 지녔던 한문소설 작자들마저도 성리학적 가치관이 현실 적용 과정에서 해결하지 못한 구조적인 모순, 즉 차별에 대한 감수성이 결여되어 있었음을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study examines the female ghosts motif’s epic transformation and its meaning shown in the novels of manners, as well as how the landscape of female ghosts motif shown in Sino-Korean novels in the Joseon period faced a new phase through the subject material of the fake ghosts. The ghost narrative involving the female ghost motif is the story of then marginalized people. They could not openly talk about their suppressed and unfair situations and could voice their story only through death. The nobility or intellectuals collapsed and wandered due to the growth of grassroots culture and low-class people culture in the second half of Joseon, and due to the division of the nobility, and they created nasty laughs and sharp satires into one of cultural phenomena. In the cultural flow with low and high-class culture intermingling and conflicting with each other, and with laugh and satire appearing, Sino-Korean novels also underwent such changes, and one of such examples is the novel of manners. In novels of such trend, the chastity of males who conflicted between ideology and desire was tested by the deceit of chastity, and they eventually succumbed to desire, and that is what most contents of such novels described. At this time, fake ghosts appear and play a deterministic role in forgoing males’ integrity. In , the story of fake ghost eventually ended as a happening in a moment. Scholar Yi not only forgave O Yu-ran and Scholar Kim but also made efforts with all his mind and body to pass the prestigious government examination, successfully raising his status into the upper class. In the novel, the ghost motif, not being dominant but appearing as an inserted episode, is never a simple happening but should be taken seriously. Compared to then general literati, Sino-Korean novelists had progressive and critical problem consciousness, but even they were found to have structural absurdities - which Neo-Confucian values could not resolve in adapting to the reality - and in other words to lack sensitivity to discrimination.
