이광수 『그 여자의 일생』의 신문연재본과 단행본의 서지적 오류

국문 초록

이 글에서는 1934년 <조선일보>에 연재된 이광수의 장편소설 『그 여자의 일생』 과 이후 단행본으로 출간된 판본들의 서지적인 오류사항에 대해서 검토하였다. 우선 단행본으로 출간된 『그 여자의 일생』 의 다양한 판본의 현황분석을 통해 <조선일보>의 연재본과 다르게 누락된 부분에 대해 살펴보았다. 이어서 이 논문에서 가장 중요한 서지적인 오류인 연재 회차의 순서를 바로잡았다. <조선일보>의 연재본에서부터 연재 순서의 착오가 발생하여, 신문사가 <정정란>을 통해 공지를 하였으나, 이후 단행본에서는 <정정란>의 내용만을 확인하여 수정하는 바람에 잘못된 연재 순서로 현재까지 지속되어 왔다. 연재 회차의 오류는 서사의 개연성을 해할 뿐 아니라 『그 여자의 일생』이 정확한 텍스트로서의 기능을 해칠 수도 있다. 마지막으로 작가의 착오로 서사의 몇 군데 중요한 부분에서 오식이 발생하였다. 이러한 오식은 주로 긴 연재 기간으로 인한 기억의 착오나 작가 개인의 부주의한 서술태도가 그원인으로 작용하였다. 이 작품도 연재 기간이 상당히 길었고, 10개월 동안 연재가 중단되었다가 다시 연재된 작품이라는 특수성 때문에 여러 종류의 오식이 발생했다. 사건 전환의 핵심이 되는 키워드에 대한 오식과 인물의 중요한 관계 설정에 대한 오류는 순전히 작가의 잘못이라 할 수 있다. 『그 여자의 일생』 의 연재 회차의 오류를 정정하고, 작가의 착오로 발생한 서지와 내용상의 문제를 분석하는 것은 이광수 문학연구에 가장 기초적인 토대작업으로 작용할 것이다.

영문 초록

In this article, I reviewed the bibliographical errors of Lee Kwang-soo’s feature novel The Woman’s Life serialized in the Chosun Ilbo in 1934 and the versions published as a book later. First of all, through the analysis of the current status of various editions of The Woman’s Life published as a book, the missing parts were examined differently from the series of . The order of serialization, the most important bibliographical error in this paper, was corrected. An error occurred in the order of serialization from the series of , and the newspaper announced it through Correction . However, in the book, only the contents of The Correction have been confirmed and corrected, and it has been continued until now in the wrong serialization order. An error in serialization not only harms the probability of the narrative, but may also impair the function of The Woman’s Life as an accurate text. Finally, due to the author’s error, typos occurred in several important parts of the narrative. This misconception was mainly caused by a mistake in memory due to a long serial period and the artist’s individual careless attitude to describe. This work also had a very long serialization period, and several kinds of misunderstandings occurred due to the peculiarity of being serialized again after being discontinued for 10 months. Misconceptions about the keywords that are the core of the event conversion and errors in setting important relationships between characters can be said to be purely the author’s fault. Correcting errors in the serialization of The Woman’s Life and analyzing the bibliographical errors caused by the writer’s error will serve as the most basic foundation work for Lee Kwang-soo’s literature research.
