상호문화능력(intercultural capability) 함양을 위한 교양 집중과정 제안 연구

국문 초록

이 논문은 대학생 6대 핵심역량 진단 결과, 글로벌 역량이 하위 순위에 머물러 있고(한국직업능력개발원 2017, 대학혁신원 2021), 그간 주로 외국어 능력으로 글로벌 역량이 환원적으로 이해되어왔다는 데에 문제의식을 갖고 시작되었다. 그리하여 글로벌 역량의 또 다른 하위 역량인 상호문화능력 함양을 위한 교양 집중과정 개발의 필요성을 주장하고, 국립한국교통대학교의 교양교과 개발 과정을 소개해 보았다. 재학생들의 진로와 직결된 실습 중심 교육이라는 방향성을 수립하고이를 위해, 총 15시간 학습의 계절학기 집중 교육과정으로 본 교과목을 구상하였으며 차시별 강의내용과 강의방법을 제시하였다. 강의내용은 글로벌 역량의 개념과 상호문화능력의 포괄범위를 반영하여 ‘지식’과 ‘스킬’ 부문으로 이대분하고, 거시적인 차원과 구체적인 의사소통상황을 중심으로 ‘글로벌 커뮤니케이터를위한 지식 1, 스킬 1(1-8차시)’와 ‘글로벌 커뮤니케이터를 위한 지식 2, 스킬 2(9-15차시)’로 제안했다. 지식 1과 스킬 1에서는 외국인이 바라보는 한국문화와 문화적인 자기반사 및 나라별 문화에대한 한국인의 오해, 외국인 유학생 대상 문화충격 설문조사 등을 통해 자문화와 타문화에 대한인식을 새롭게 한다. 또한 외국인 유학생에게 대표적인 한국문화 항목을 영어로 설명하는 활동과더불어 외국인 유학생과 함께 문화 차이에 대한 대화와 토론의 시간을 가진다. 지식 2와 스킬2에서는 언어적, 비언어적 의사소통에서의 동서양 차이와 동서양의 직장문화 차이를 이해하고, 특히 직장생활에서 요구되는 다양한 글로벌 에티켓을 의사소통상황별로 연습한다. 마지막으로지금까지 배운 내용을 종합적으로 활용하여 주어진 상황과 역할에 따라 2인1조로 역할극을 수행하고 동료평가를 통한 피드백을 주고받음으로써 글로벌 커뮤니케이터로서의 상호문화능력을 다진다. 본 집중과정을 통해 학습자들의 상호문화능력을 실질적이고도 효율적으로 증진시켜 향후 글로벌 경쟁사회로의 진입과 적응을 용이하게 하고 학내 외국인 유학생과의 보다 원활한 소통도 촉진될 수 있으리라 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to insist on the necessity of improving an intercultural capability course as a liberal arts curriculum and to suggest corresponding learning contents and teaching methods. In particular, this study proposes (1) the operation of a 15-hour intensive course at the Korea National University of Transportation that will utilize the seasonal semester to reduce learners’ psychological burdens and (2) the effective completion of a more training-centered curriculum; this will allow students to easily apply and transfer their learnings into social life after graduation. Intercultural capability encompasses knowledge, skills, attitudes, cultural types, verbal skills, and non-verbal skills regarding one’s own culture and other cultures, so knowledge (knowledge, attitude, culture type, language ability, and non-verbal ability) and skills (skills, language ability, and nonverbal ability) have been designed as the two main categories of this course. This course was divided as follows: (1) Knowledge 1 and Skill 1 for global communicators dealing with knowledge-related aspects and corresponding skills at the macro level and (2) Knowledge 2 and Skill 2, which are based on a more specific communication situation. Knowledge 1, which starts by recognizing the significance of communication and cultural communication, provides an opportunity to objectively recognize Korean culture through foreigners’ eyes and to enjoy some self-culture mirroring activities. On the other hand, Knowledge 2 and Skill 2, which are based on the premise of situation that is characterized by more micro-communication allow for more verbal communication, non-verbal communication, and understanding of differences between how Eastern and Western workplace cultures are fabricated and suggest specific manners for each situation. By completing this course, students who are facing a global working environment could acquire and strengthen essential intercultural capabilities.
