국문 초록

이 논문의 목적은 연극 「공포」(고재귀 作, 박상현 연출, 2018)를 중심으로 무대 공간의 특징을분석하는 것이다. 연극에서 ‘무대’란 단순히 시각적으로 제시되는 공간이 아니다. 무대는 인물들의 언어적 표현(말) 및 비언어적 표현(분위기)을 통해, 그리고 인물들의 계급 및 관계성에 따라구성될 수 있는 창조적인 공간이 된다. 「공포」는 러시아 극작가 안톤 체홉의 동명소설을 극화한 작품으로서 그가 실제로 사할린에다녀와 얻은 삶의 의미를 극의 주제로 드러낸다. 이 논문은 먼저 극중 인물들을 지배 계급과 피지배 계급으로 나누어 그들에 나타난 ‘공포의 형상화’를 서술한다. 그리고 실제 공연된 무대를 중심으로 관객에게 시각적으로 제시되는 실존 공간과, 등장인물의 담화를 통해 제시되는 무대 밖 공간으로서의 상징적 공간을 설명한다. 마지막으로 무대를 다섯 구역으로 분할하고 등장인물들이 각각의 구역들을 어떻게 구성하는지를 그들의 계급적 특성을 토대로 논의한다. 무대 공간의 분석 작업에서 인물들의 감정 교류와 상호 관계가 공간과 어떻게 앙상블을 이루는지를 중요하게 다루는 관점은 필수적이 되어야 한다. 본고는 연극 「공포」의 분석을 통해, 단지지시적인 표현 방식으로만 보기 쉬운 무대 공간의 내용 차원을 넘어 그것이 어떻게 상징적인구성 방식을 경유하여 인물들과 상호관련성을 맺게 되는지를 읽어내고자 했다.

영문 초록

The main aim of this thesis is to analyze features of stage spaces based on the Korean play 「Fear」(Jae-Gui, Koh, director Sang-Hyun, Park, 2018). In theater, the “stage” has a more significant meaning than simply being a visualized space. Above the stage can be constituted through the character’s linguistic expression (verbal) and non-linguistic expression (mood), moreover can be a creative space according to where it is composed by the character’s class and reciprocal relationships. 「Fear」 is a dramatization of a novel written by Russian playwright, Anton Chekhov. During his trip to Sakhalin, Anton reveals the meaning of life that he gained from the trip and uses that for the theme of this play. This particular thesis divides the characters of the play from the ruling class and the governance class, representing the “figure of fear” that appeared within them. It also explains the existing space that is visually presented to the audience around the physical stage, and the symbolic meaning of an off-stage space presented through the character’s discourse. In the end, the stage is divided into five sections and the characters discuss how to organize each section based on the characters’ hierarchy. In the analysis of stage space, the characters’ perspective toward emotional exchanges and interrelationships forms an essential dramatic space. Through the analysis of the play 「Fear」, beyond the mere contents level of stage space as referential expression, this thesis tried to interpret how interrelationships can be created among characters via symbolized compositions.
