국문 초록

이 논문은 ‘블록체인’이 제시하는 ‘합의알고리즘’에 대한 이해와 함께 그 기술적, 인문학적 의미를 분석 정리하는 것을 목표로 한다. ‘블록체인’과 그것이 제시하는 ‘합의알고리즘’이 어떤 선한영향력을 발휘할 수 있을지를 이해하는 것은, 미래를 준비하는 중요한 첫걸음이 되기 때문이다. 아울러 ‘블록체인’ ‘합의알고리즘’이 중앙 집중과 독점의 문제를 안고 있는 기존 ‘합의알고리즘’의문제를 해결할 수 있는지? 그와 같은 해결 방향이 더욱 합리적인 협력이나 공동체를 만들어가는계기나 디딤돌이 될 수 있는지? 등의 의문에 우리의 연구는 일정 부분 답할 수도 있을 것이다. 이와 같은 목표를 달성하기 위해 논문은 다음과 같은 세 가지 내용으로 구성되어 있다. 첫째는기존의 ‘합의알고리즘’이 어떤 것인지를 확인하고 그 한계를 확인하는 내용이다. 둘째는 ‘블록체인 합의알고리즘’이란 어떤 것이고, 그것이 어떻게 신뢰를 만들어 내는지, 또 그것은 어떻게 작동하고 어떤 특징을 가지는지를 정리하는 내용이다. 그리고 마지막 셋째는 이 ‘블록체인 합의알고리즘’이 기존의 ‘합의알고리즘’과 어떤 차별성을 보여주고, 그 기술적 인문학적 의의는 무엇인지를정리하는 내용이다. 이 세 가지 측면에 대한 이해를 통해 ‘블록체인’이 제시하는 ‘합의알고리즘’의의미를 정리하고 있다. 현재 ‘블록체인 합의알고리즘’은 겨우 상업적인 영역에서 제한적인 관심을 보여주고 있을 뿐이다. 그럼에도 ‘블록체인’의 지향과 그 ‘합의알고리즘’의 이상은 주목되는 부분이다. 이 점에서 미래에도 블록체인이 상업적 관계에만 제한적으로 활용될 가능성은 낮다. 언젠가 ‘블록체인’ 기술이상업적 관계를 넘어 인류에게 한 걸음 더 다가오는 날, 그것이 불러올 변화는 상상 이상으로 근원적일 가능성이 크다. 인간이 만들어 온 모든 것이 합의와 협력을 위한 토대였다고 말할 수 있다면, ‘블록체인’은 그 모든 것의 변화를 불러올 것이기 때문이다.

영문 초록

This study presents the concept of the “consensus algorithm” represented by “blockchain” technology, and analyzes and summarizes its technical and human meanings. Understanding the beneficial influences that blockchain and the consensus algorithm it presents can exert is an important first step in preparing for the future. This study also explores whether the aforementioned algorithms can solve the problems of current centralized and monopolized consensus algorithms, and whether such a solution can serve as an opportunity or steppingstone to a more reasonable system of cooperation or community. To achieve this aim, the study is presented in three parts. The first identifies the current consensus algorithm and its limitations. The second covers the blockchain consensus algorithm, how it creates trust, how it works, and its characteristics. The third shows how the algorithm differs from the existing consensus algorithm and discusses its technical and human significance. Based on these three points, the meaning of the consensus algorithm that blockchain represents is summarized. Currently, the blockchain consensus algorithm is significant only in the commercial realm, but blockchain’s orientation and its ideal of a consensus algorithm are noteworthy. In this regard, it is unlikely that blockchain will be restricted to commercial uses in the future. When blockchain technology advances beyond the domain of commerce, the changes it will bring about are likely to be more fundamental than we can imagine, for if everything that humans have created has been a foundation for consensus and cooperation, blockchain will completely transform them.
