누락된 ‘목소리’의 복원과 다성적 역사 쓰기

국문 초록

이 논문은 <화전가>에서 시도되고 있는 누락된 ‘목소리’의 복원과 기억의 재현 양상을 살펴보는 데 그 목적이 있다. <화전가>는 ‘여성’의 경험과 ‘목소리’를 통해 식민지 경험과 해방, 냉전과 분단으로 이어지는역사적 기억을 복원하고 있는 작품이다. 배삼식은 <화전가>에서 공식 역사에서 누락된 여성(들) 의 목소리, 지배적인 기억에서 희미해진 주변부 언어와 풍속, 흩어진 사적 기억들을 발굴, 복원하는 작업을 시도하고 있으며, 구술 양식을 기반으로 여성 주체들의 다성적 목소리를 작품 속에서다층적으로 재현해나간다. 공식 역사에서 주변화 되어 온 여성들의 일상적 경험과 기억에 주목하고 있는 작가의 시선과누락된 여성의 목소리에 귀 기울이고 있는 작가의 태도에는 기존의 방식과는 다른 시선과 접근으로 배제된 역사의 흔적들을 재발견하고 의미화 하고자 하는 대중기억의 실천적 함의가 깃들어있다. 잊혀진 목소리를 발굴하고 연극적으로 복원함으로써 역사 구성의 목소리를 다성적(多聲的) 으로 구축해나가고자 하는 이러한 시도는 ‘다성적 세계로서의 희곡’을 넘어 ‘다성적 역사 쓰기’를향해 나아가고 있음을 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to investigate the restoration of omitted “voices” in Hwajeonga and the patterns of its reproduction of historical memories. Hwajeonga uses the experiences and “voices” of women to restore the historical memories of Korean people from the colonial experience through liberation to the Cold War and division of Korea. In this work, Bae Sam-sik attempts to excavate and restore women’s voices that had been omitted from the official history, marginal languages and customs that had faded from the dominant memories, and scattered private memories by reproducing female subjects’ polyphonic voices in a multi-layered fashion in the style of oral statement. There are practical implications for popular memories when the traces of excluded history are rediscovered and signified from a different viewpoint and approach. Through the author’s viewpoint, the play focuses on women’s daily experiences and memories marginalized from official history, and his attitude of listening to these omitted voices of women differs from past representations in popular memories. This attempt to establish historic voices in polyphonic modes through the excavation and theatrical restoration of forgotten voices moves toward a polyphonic writing of history.
