조선 시대 여자 교훈서(여훈서)의 유형과 의미

국문 초록

조선 시대에는 여자 교육이라는 개념이나 공식적인 여자 교육 기관이 존재하지 않았다. 그러나조선 초기부터 국가 차원의 왕실과 사대부가 부녀 교화를 목적으로 한 여훈서가 등장했으며, 이러한 책들은 조선 중기와 후기를 거쳐 근대에 이르기까지 지속적으로 사용되었다. 더욱이 양반가의가승 전통에 따른 부녀 교육이 활발해지면서 내훈이나 여소학류, 일상생활에 필요한 실용 지식을담은 여훈서들이 다수 등장했다. 이 논문은 조선왕조실록의 여훈서 관련 기사 및 현전하는 여훈서를 대상으로 그 내용과 성격에따라 유형을 분류하고, 조선 시대 여자 교육에서 여훈서가 갖는 의미를 규명하는 데 목표를 두었다. 이 논문에서 대상으로 삼은 여훈서는 『삼강행실도』 ‘열녀’를 포함한 64종이며, 여러 개의 판본이 있을 경우 초간을 기준으로 하되, 국문본과 한문본 두 종이 존재할 경우 개별 종수로 처리하였다. 여훈서의 유형은 내용과 성격을 기준으로, 여성 인물을 본보기로 설정하는 ‘여범류’, 부녀자의덕과 행실을 중심으로 한 ‘내훈류’, 소학에 기반을 둔 ‘여소학류’, 일상생활의 지식이나 가사 업무와 관련한 ‘부녀 실용서’로 설정하였다. 이 유형 설정은 여훈서의 내용뿐만 아니라 출현 배경, 전승 양상에서 일정한 차이를 보이며, 그것은 또한 조선 시대 여자 교육의 특성을 반영한 것으로해석할 수 있다. 특히 여소학류나 부녀 실용서는 필사본으로 가승(家乘) 방식으로 전해 오는 것들이 많기 때문에 문헌 발굴 가능성이 높다는 점에서 유형 분류와 주요 내용을 정리하는 원칙을확립하는 것은 의미 있는 일이다.

영문 초록

In the Joseon Dynasty, there was no concept of women’s education or an official women’s education institution. However, since the early Joseon Dynasty, there appeared the YEOHUNSEO(women’s instructional book) for the purpose of rehabilitation of women and women by the royal family at the national level, and these books were used continuously from the middle and late Joseon period to the modern era. Moreover, as women’s education according to the YANGBAN family’s ancestral traditions became active, a number of books containing practical knowledge necessary for NEAHUN, women’s studies, and daily life appeared. This thesis aims to categorize the types of articles related to the YEOHUNSEO in the Joseon Dynasty and the existing YEOHUNSEO according to their content and character, and to clarify the meaning of YEOHUNSEO in women’s education during the Joseon Dynasty. The subject of this thesis is 64 species, including the SAMGANGHAENGSILDO. If there are multiple editions, the first edition is used, but if there are two Korean and Chinese texts, they are treated as separate species. The types of YEOHUNSEO is consist of 4 types. First is ‘type of YEOBEOM(exemplary female figure)’, which sets a female character as an example, based on content and personality. Second are the type of ‘NEAHUN’, which focuses on the virtue and behavior of women. Third is the type of ‘YESOHAK’, which is based on the SOHAK(children’s book). And four type of ‘YEGONG’, it was set as a practical book for women and women’ related to the knowledge and housekeeping work. This type setting shows a certain difference not only in the content of YEOHUNSEO, but also in the background of appearance and transmission, and it can also be interpreted as reflecting the characteristics of women’s education in the Joseon Dynasty. In particular, it is meaningful to establish the principle of classifying the types and organizing the main contents in that there is a high possibility of discovering the literature because many of them are handed down in manuscripts in the form of manuscripts for women’s academic classes and women’s practical books.
