A Study on Korean Language Major Syllabus in India

국문 초록

본 논문은 인도 내 한국어 전공의 현재 교수요목을 분석하고 체계적인 한국어 전공 교수요목을 개발하는 방안을 제시하였다. 인도에서 한국어 전공 과정은 아직 본격적으로 공부되지 않은 분야이다. 즉, 한국어 전공의 교수요목, 학생, 수업 내용에 대한 연구는 거의 없다. 이 분야의 연구 부족은 인도 내 한국어 전공에 대한 보다 더 구체적인 연구의 필요성을 제기한다. 최근 인도 내에서 한국어 학습에 대한 관심이 높아지면서 인도 여러 대학에서 한국어 전공이 점점 생겨나고 있는 추세이다. 인도 대학의 한국어 전공 과정의 질을 높이기 위해서는 이에 대한 교수요목, 교육과정, 그리고 학생들에 대한 현황과 문제점에 대한 연구가 선행되어야 한다. 따라서 본 논문은 40년 이상의 한국어 교육 역사를 가진 인도의 대표적인 한국어 교육기관인 JNU(네루대학교)의 한국어 전공 교수요목을 분석하였다. 교수요목을 목적과 목표, 내용 선정 및 배열, 최종 목표 위주로 분석하였다. 결과를 분석해보면 인도 내 한국어교육 전공 교수요목은 정확한 목적이나 목표가 없어 내용 선정이나 배열이 체계적이지 않다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 문제는 교수요목의 최종 목표, 학년별 등급 목표, 그리고 명확하지 않은 학습자의 졸업 수준 문제로 이어진다. 이 결과를 바탕으로 인도 내 한국어교육 전공 교수요목 개선점을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzed the present syllabus of Korean language major in India and suggested ways to develop a more systematic Korean language major syllabus for India. The status of Korean language major in India is a subject which is not yet appropriately studied. However, with the recent increase in Korean language interest in India, Korean language major is also slowly emerging in various universities within the country. Without a proper study into the syllabus, curriculum, or students, it is impossible to know the status, problems, or provide suggestions to improve the quality of Korean language major in India. As such, this paper analyzed the syllabus of Korean language major in JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University), the leading institute for Korean language in India. The syllabus was analyzed on the criteria of aim and objective, the course selection and sequence, and the target level. Analyzing the results, the syllabus of Korean language major in India does not have a precise aim and definite objective, which leads to a disorganized course selection and sequence. This problem also extends to the target level, where it is not clear what level the course is or the level at which the students graduate. Based on these findings, the paper suggests points to improve the syllabus of Korean language major in India.
