국문 초록

본 연구는 약 100여 년 동안 오늘날 우리의 청소년 발달관에 영향을 미친 Hall의 스톰과 스트레스에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 G. Stanley Hall의 스톰과 스트레스의 특징을 간단히 고찰하고, 오늘날의 연구와의 유사점 및 차이점을 비교한다. 이를 통하여 청소년발달에 대한 사회문화적 접근의 필요성을 제시함으로써 청소년발달에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓히고자 한다. 먼저 Hall의 입장에서, 청소년은 호르몬 영향으로 인한 급격한 심리적 동요를 겪게 되는데 이는 이 단계에서 피할 수 없는 과정이라는 것이다. 그러나 사회문화적 관점에서는 청소년들의 스톰과 스트레스는 산업화된 서구문화에서 일부 나타나는 현상이지 모든 문화권에서 청소년들이 거치는 필연적인 과정은 아니라는 것이다. 즉, 스톰과 스트레스에도 개인차가 있으며 전통적 문화에서 생활하는 청소년들은 비교적 스톰과 스트레스에서 자유로웠다는 것이다. 그럼에도 Hall의 연구는 오늘날 청소년연구에 대한 많은 시사점도 제공하였다.

영문 초록

This study attempted to reconsider the storm and stress of G. Stanley Hall that have affected our adolescence view for about 100 years. To do this, I first briefly examine Hall s characteristics of storm and stress, and compare the similarities and differences with today s research. Through this, by presenting the necessity of a cultural approach to adolescence development, it is intended to obtain implications to broaden the breadth of understanding about adolescence development. First of all, adolescents experience the rapid psychological fluctuations due to hormonal effects, which is an unavoidable process at this stage. However, from a cultural point of view, the storm and stress of adolescents are some of the phenomena in industrialized western culture, and not all adolescents go through it. In other words, there are individual differences in storm and stress, and adolescents living in traditional cultures were relatively free from storm and stress. Nevertheless, Hall s research also provided many implications for today s adolescence research. The research on adolescent development requires a multidisciplinary approach. Adolescents can become healthy adults with the encouragement to develop gradually by providing visions of the future and opportunity they can experience.
