생명과학 분야 학문후속세대의 조언으로부터 본 과학자에게 필요한 핵심역량

국문 초록

본 연구는 우리나라 생명과학 분야의 학문후속세대 연구자들의 목소리를 통해 해당 분야 과학자로서 요구되는 역량을 도출하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 우리나라 생명과학 분야 학문후속세대가 자신의 분야에 진학하려는 후배들에게 주고자 하는 조언을 묻는 인터뷰 질문에 대한 응답을 수집하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 크게 두 가지로, 먼저 학문후속세대가 연구자로서 갖추어야 한다고 여기는 핵심역량이 도출되었다. 이는 크게 여덟 가지 범주로, 연구 수행 및 운영 능력, 과학적·융합적 사고력, 지속적 지식 습득 능력, 의사소통 및 협업 능력, 열정과 끈기, 인성 및 윤리 의식, 효율적인 시간 운영 및 심리적·신체적 건강 유지, 진로 탐색 및 성과 산출 능력으로 도출되었다. 두 번째 연구 질문은 학문후속세대가 4년 전의 인터뷰에 비해 최근의 인터뷰 응답에서 언급하는 핵심역량이 어떻게 변화했는지 탐색하는 것이었다. 분석 결과, 두 시기 모두에서 ‘열정과 끈기’ 범주의 역량이 크게 강조되었으며, 선행 문헌을 바탕으로 자신의 전공 분야에 대한 이해를 깊이 하고 타 분야의 지식과 기술을 응용하여 새로운 지식을 구성하며 학문 분야를 확장시키는 것이 중요하게 여겨지는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 4년 전에 비해 최근 인터뷰에서는 ‘과학적·융합적 사고력’, ‘의사소통 및 협업 능력’ 중 ‘사회적 네트워크 구성’, ‘인성 및 윤리 의식’ 역량이 더 강조되었다는 변화가 나타났다. 본 연구 결과는 생명과학 분야 연구자들의 발전 과정을 이해하고 이를 지원하기 위한 전략 구축에 기여할 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to explore core competencies of next-generation researchers in fields of biology from their own voices. We collected and analyzed answers to interview questions asking for advice from next-generation researchers in the field of biology. As a result of the analysis, eight core competencies were derived: ability to conduct and manage research, scientific and integrative thinking ability, ability to continuously acquire knowledge, communication and collaboration skills, passion and perseverance, ethics and morality, efficient time operation and maintaining psychological and physical health, and ability to explore career path and produce outputs. The second research question was to explore the changes in core competencies that researchers thought was necessary for researchers in recent interview responses compared to four years ago. The results of the analysis showed that the competencies of the ‘passion and perseverance’ was greatly emphasized in both periods. It was also analyzed that it is important to deepen understanding of one’s major field based on prior literature and to construct new knowledge by applying knowledge and skills in other fields and expand the academic field. Meanwhile, the main difference shown in the interviews of the two periods was that the emphasis on ‘integrative thinking ability,’ ability to construct social networks’ in ‘communication and collaborative skills,’ and ‘ethics and morality’ have increased in the recent interview. The results of this study are expected to contribute to understanding the development of researchers in fields of biology and developing supporting strategies for them.
