일본 교과서 삽화를 통해 본 교육에서 실물과 언어의 관계 전환 연구

국문 초록

본 논문은 근대 일본교과서의 삽화와 설명을 통해 근대 실물교육에서 실물과 언어의 관계 전환을 고찰하여 그것이 근현대 교육인식에 끼친 변화를 검토한 것이다. 본론에서는 1903-1940년대까지 문부성과 총독부 교과서의 삽화와 텍스트를 분석하여 다음의 네 가지 결과를 도출했다. 첫째, 교과서에 삽화가 증가하던 1920년대에 발생한 삽화 논쟁에서 실물(그림)과 언어의 ‘일치’가 중요한 논제로 다루어졌다. 둘째, 1920년대 후반 교과서 삽화는 제도권에서 생산된 그림이라는 대표성을 도입하여, 시각의 사회화가 이루어졌다. 셋째, 1930년대에 삽화의 묘사된 ‘실물’이 독자별로 다르게 사용되어 당대 교육이 언어와 실물 간에 의미형성은 독자에게 있음을 표방했다. 넷째, 1930년대 말 1940년대에 사용된 픽쳐레스크는 실물을 재현한 삽화가 개념을 지시하는 새로운 유형의 삽화였다. 1903-1940년대 교과서의 삽화 변천을 따라가 보면 교과서에서는 사실성을 추구함으로써 실물이 언어에 종속되는 측면을 보였으나 한편으로 실물 자체가 주는 의미의 이중성, 애매함에서 새롭게 언어를 모색하는 가능성도 엿볼 수 있었다. 이렇듯 언어와 실물의 관계 전환의 구도는 현대교육에서 새로운 공공성을 모색해 가는데 던지는 시사점이 크다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the transformation of the relationship between Object and language in modern education through illustrations of modern Japanese textbooks and examines the changes which has made to modern education awareness. In the main paper, it analyzed the illustrations and texts of textbooks from the 1903-1940s written by both of the Japanese Ministry of Education and the Japanese Governor-General of Korea and drew the following four conclusions: First, the matching of real object(picture) and language was an important issue in the illustration debate in the 1920s, when illustrations were increasing in textbooks. Second, in the late 1920s, the illustration of textbooks was represented as a painting produced by the institution, and the socialization of vision was carried out. Third, in the 1930s, illustrated reality were used differently by readers, indicating that contemporary education had a relative meaning between language and reality. Fourth, the Picturesque used in the late 1930s and 1940s were a new type of illustration that dictated the concept of a realistic reproduction. If you follow the changes of illustrations in Japanese textbooks from the 1903-1940s, you can see that textbooks show objects were dependent on language by pursuing realism, but on the other hand, they seek the possibility of a new language from the duality and ambiguity of the reality itself. As such, the structure of the transformation of the relationship between language and object has great implications for seeking new publicity in today’s education.
