상담전공 특수대학원에 재학하는 성인학습자의 학습경험에 대한 합의적 질적 연구

국문 초록

목적 본 연구의 목적은 기대-가치 이론을 활용하여 상담전공 특수대학원에 재학하는 성인학습자의 학습경험의 내용과 그 의미를 분석하는데 있다. 방법 이를 위하여 상담전공 특수대학원 석사과정 학생 10명을 대상으로 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 진행하였고 합의적 질적 연구 방법으로 분석하였다. 합의적 질적 연구란 평정자와 감수자로 이루어진 연구 팀이 팀원 간의 합의를 통해 자료를 분석하고 전체적인 패턴을 확인하는 방법이다. 결과 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 특수대학원 진학 전 가진 동기는 주로 상담학에 대한 관심과 배움의 욕구와 같은 내재가치, 제2의 직업준비 및 센터개원 계획과 같은 유용가치를 인식하면서 갖게 된 것으로 나타났다. 반면 학위과정을 성공적으로 잘 해낼 수 있을 것이라는 성공기대는 나타나지 않았다. 둘째, 입학 전 예상한 비용은 직장 및 가정에서의 활동에 이전과 같이 참여할 수 없게 됨으로서 발생하는 기회비용, 학위를 취득하기 위해 얼마나 많은 노력이 필요한지에 대한 노력비용이 있었다. 원생들은 비용을 인식하고 있음에도 불구하고 진학을 결정했고, 입학 후에도 이러한 비용인식의 일부는 지속되었다. 입학 후에는 상담역량에 대한 고민과 의구심, 상담연구방법론의 높은 체감 난이도 등 능력과 관련한 믿음이 추가적으로 인식된 비용으로 나타났다. 셋째, 원생들은 입학 전에는 자격증 취득, 제2의 직업준비와 같은 실질적으로 유용한 가치에 대한 기대와 인식이 컸으나 입학 후 학업과정에서는 대인관계에서 받는 정서적 지지와 상담자로서의 역량향상과 같은 숙달경험과 성공에 대한 기대인식이 학업을 지속시키는데 중요하였다. 결론 본 연구를 통해 상담전공 특수대학원에 재학하는 성인학습자가 학습 과정에서 경험하는 다양한 어려움과 학업을 지속하게 하는 원천을 심층적으로 확인할 수 있었다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 결과가 후속 연구에 주는 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives The aim of the study is to analyze the learning experience of adult learners in professional counseling program based on the expectancy-value theory. Methods Focus group interviews were conducted with ten students in the program and the data was analyzed using Consensual Qualitative Research(CQR) method. Consensual Qualitative Research is a method in which a research team consisting of evaluators and one supervisor analyzes data and checks the overall pattern through consensus. Results The major results are as follows. First, most of the students had a motivation to go to graduate school by recognizing the intrinsic value such as interest in counseling, the desire to learn, and the utility value such as the second job preparation and center opening plan. However, there was no expectancy belief for success that the degree course would be completed successfully. Second, the anticipated cost before entering the program is the opportunity cost incurred by not being able to participate in work or family life as before and the effort cost from engaging in the program. Despite of the cost perception, they decided to participate in the program. After entering the program, these anticipated cost perceptions partly continued with other newly emerged costs, such as doubts and concerns about ability in counseling and counseling research methodology. Third, emotional support from the interpersonal relationships, interest and mastery experience in the counseling domain were the most influential sources for being continuously engaged in the program, compared to the perceptions of utility values such as obtaining a license or preparing for a second job were dominant before entering the program. Conclusions This research allowed exploration of adult learner's various difficulties and sources of continuing study during attending a special graduate school majoring in counseling. Implications for further research and practices were provided.
