텍스트 마이닝 기법을 활용한 코로나19 발생 이후 교육격차의 쟁점 분석

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 코로나19 발생 이후 초⋅중⋅고 개학 연기와 온라인 교육이 반복되면서 나타난 교육격차의 쟁점을 분석하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 2020년 2월 23일부터 12월 28일까지 국내 주요 20개 일간지와 3개 방송사에서 보도한 교육격차 관련 뉴스 기사 및 댓글을 웹 스크래핑 방법으로 수집하여 텍스트 마이닝 분석을 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 텍스트 마이닝에 용이한 형태로 가공하여 구조적 토픽 모형(STM) 분석과 키워드 빈도 분석을 실시하였다. 구조적 토픽 모형은 메타데이터를 예측변인으로 모형에 투입하여 활용할 수 있다는 장점을 가진다. 본 연구에서는 교육부의 등교 지침 변화에 따라 구분한 시기를 예측변인으로 투입하여 토픽의 종단적 변화 추이를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 코로나19 상황에서 발생한 교육격차의 쟁점은 (1) 디지털 격차 해소를 위한 스마트기기 지원, (2) 교육격차 해소를 위한 정부 차원의 지원 체제, (3) 대학 입시 준비에서 오는 고3과 재수생 간 격차, (4) 지역 및 학교 규모에 따른 학사운영 차이, (5) 초등학교 돌봄 공백을 최소화하기 위한 학사운영, (6) 학생들의 학습 습관 및 사회적 관계 형성의 어려움, (7) 기초학력 지원을 통한 격차 해소, (8) 원격수업 유형에 따른 수업의 질 차이, (9) 평가에서 나타난 격차 등 총 9개의 토픽이 도출되었다. 둘째, 토픽별로 시기에 따른 토픽의 출현율 변화 양상은 다르게 나타났다. 셋째, 시기에 따라 교육격차의 주요 쟁점은 변화하였으며, 기사와 댓글에서 주목하는 쟁점에 차이를 보였다. 본 연구 결과를 토대로 코로나19 상황에서 발생한 교육격차의 실태 및 원인을 파악하고, 이에 대한 해결방안을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the issue of educational gap after the COVID-19 ourbreak using Korean mainstream mass media’s news articles and online comments. For this purpose, articles and online comments of the top 20 daily newspapers and the top 3 broadcasting stations published from February 23, 2020 to December 28, 2020 were collected using web scraping method. The collected data were preprocessed for text mining analysis, and the structural topic model (STM) and keyword frequency analysis were performed. The STM incorporates document metadata in topic modeling process. The periods classified according to the press releases from the Ministry of Education were put as predictors and the trend of the topic was explored. The main results are as follows. First, 9 topics were extracted from the news articles: (1) issues related to providing digital devices for low-income families, (2) government support for solving educational gap, (3) advantages and disadvantages due to graduation status of the applicants for college admissions, (4) difference in the number of instructional days for in-person learning depending on the areas and school sizes, (5) expansion of in-person instruction for elementary students in need of care, (6) difficulty of developing desirable study habits and making social relationships with peer, (7) support for students to meet the basic level of academic achievement, (8) differences in the quality of instruction according to the types of virtual classes, and (9) issues related to evaluation of student performance. Second, the proportions of each topic were different over time periods. Third, the main issues of the educational gap changed across the periods, and the issues addressed by the articles and online comments were different. Based on the results of this study, possible causes of the educational gap in COVID-19 were discussed with educational implications.
