글 수준과 단어 추상성 정도와의 상관관계 분석

국문 초록

이 연구는 고등학생이 쓴 논설문 40편에서 추출한 명사 488개에 대하여 교사 148명을 대상으로 추상성 정도를 측정하고, 측정한 값을 바탕으로 추상성 지수(지수 M)를 산출하였다. 이 지수 M에 따라 명사 488개를 구체어와 중립어, 추상어로 분류하였다. 그 결과 고등학생 수준의 글에서는 명사 488개 중 구체어는 219개, 중립어는 1개, 추상어는 268개로서 추상적 범주의 단어가 54.92%를 차지하였다. 이는 고등학생의 경우 성인에 가까워 추상어를 구체어보다 더 많이 활용하여 글을 쓰기 때문이다. 그리고 고등학생의 글 40편을 상, 중, 하 수준으로 분류하고, 글 수준에 따라 구체어와 추상어의 개수, 구체어와 추상어의 점수, 구체어와 추상어의 비율, 총 단어 개수, 채점과의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 상관분석의 결과, 총 단어 수와 구체어, 추상어의 개수는 상, 중, 하 수준 모두 정적 상관관계를 보였으며 이에 대한 일원분산분석 결과 상 수준과 하 수준의 평균 차이만 유의하였다. 또한 글 추상성 점수와 구체어 점수는 상, 중, 하 수준 모두 정적 상관관계를 보였으며 이에 대한 일원분산분석 결과 상 수준과 하 수준의 평균 차이만 유의하였다. 그러나 구체어와 추상어의 개수, 구체어와 추상어 점수는 채점과 유의한 상관이 보이지 않았다. 이를 통해 글 수준과 단어의 추상성 정도에는 상관관계가 있으며, 글 수준이 높을수록 추상어를 적절하게 활용한다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 즉, 글에서 추상어를 많이 활용하거나, 추상성이 높은 단어를 많이 활용할 경우 교사들은 좋은 글이라고 인식하는 것으로 보인다. 또한 글의 추상성 정도와 구체어 역시 상관관계가 있으며, 글 수준이 높을수록 구체어를 적절하게 활용하여 자신의 생각을 드러낸다는 사실도 파악할 수 있다. 이는 글 수준이 높은 필자일수록 구체어를 활용하여 자신의 생각을 상술하거나 예시를 들어 구체적으로 표현하기 때문으로 보인다.

영문 초록

This study measured the degree of abstraction in 7 categories of teachers for 488 nouns extracted from high school students writings. Based on the measured values, abstraction index(M) was calculated and based on this, the number of words, ratio, score, rating were analyzed according to the writing level. Based on the index M, as a result of the classification of concrete and abstract languages, there are 219 concrete word, 1 neutral word, and 268 abstract word. In addition, as a result of classifying words according to the index M category, the proportion of words in the abstract category accounted for 54.92% in high school student writing. This is because high school students are closer to adults and use abstract word more than concrete words to write. As a result of correlation analysis between the number of total words, the number of concrete and abstract words showed a positive correlation in all levels and the ratio of concrete word and the ratio of abstract words showed a negative correlation only in the lower levels. The results of one-way ANOVA showed significant results only at the upper and lower levels. Also, as a result of correlation analysis between the score of M, the score of concrete and abstract words showed positive correlation in all levels. Through this, there is a difference in the use of concrete and abstract words according to the writing level, This seems to be because teachers perceive that abstract words are good writing when they use abstract words a lot. Also, the degree of abstraction of writing is influenced by the concrete word, This seems to be more used because the upper level of writing, the more detailed or exemplified the thoughts of oneself.
