예비유아교사의 교직 선택 동기에 관한 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 예비유아교사들의 어떤 이유로 교직을 선택하였고 그 과정에서 영향을 미치는 요인은 무엇이었는지 교직 선택 동기를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 G시에 소재한 4년제 H대학 유아교육과 신입생 67명을 대상으로 2018년 3월부 터 8월까지 교직 선택 동기를 자유롭게 기술하고 심층 개별면담을 실시한 후 자료를 수집하고 이를 질적으로 분석하였다. 예비유아교사들의 교직 선택 동기는 ‘직업으로서 교직의 매력’, ‘유아들과 함께 하는 기쁨’, ‘의미있는 타인의 영향’, ‘나의 적성과 능력’, ‘상황에 의한 것’ 5가지로 범주화 할 수 있다. 그 결과 예비유아교사들이 교사양성과정을 거치면서 가르치는 직업의 가치를 인식할 수 있도록 지도할 필요가 있으며, 아이들을 사랑하는 마음을 유지하고 유아들과의 긍정적인 상호작용을 경험 할 수 있는 현장중심 프로그램 운영이 모색되어져야 하겠다. 또한 반성적 사고를 통해 유아교사로서의 사명감, 책임감, 교직관을 고찰해보는 과정을 제공하고, 학습 호기심 및 창의성 개발 기회를 제공하여 예비유아교사의 전공에 대한 관심과 흥미를 유지할 필요가 있다. 아울러 능동적 동기를 높이고 교직특성을 이해하여 전공 만족을 경험할 수 있는 프로그램이 제공되어져야 하겠다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to explore pre-service early childhood teachers’ motivation for choosing teaching profession and investigate the reasons and factors influencing their career choice. Sixty-seven freshman majoring early childhood education at a four-year university in G-city were selected to describe their motivations for choosing teaching profession, and they were then interviewed in depth. The collected data were analyzed qualitatively. Pre-service early childhood teachers’ motivations for choosing a teaching profession were categorized into five: “attraction of teaching profession as a job,” “joy and happiness with young children,” “meaningful influence form others,” “personal aptitudes and abilities,” and “choices according to situation.” Taking into account these motivations, pre-service early childhood teachers should be guided to recognize the value of teaching profession. They should also be provided with a field-oriented program that enables them to keep their love and concern for young children and experience positive interactions with their potential students. An opportunity to ponder the mission, responsibility, and vision of teaching profession can become a foundation for reflective thinking. Moreover, pre-service teachers should be offered an opportunity to develop their curiosity and creativity so that they remain interested in their major. Programs that allow pre-service teachers to experience satisfaction toward their major can serve as basis for active motivation and understanding of teaching profession.
