지속가능발전교육 모델로서 전주한옥마을의 적합성 모색

국문 초록

본 연구는 초등사회교과서에 나타난 지속가능발전교육의 문제점을 고찰한 후 이에 대한 사례로서 전주한옥마을의 적합성을 모색하였다. 지속가능발전교육은 사회적, 환경적, 경제적 관점이 통합된 시각이 요구된다. 하지만 교과서의 사례가 환경적 관점과 외국의 사례에 치우쳐 있다. 이는 지속가능발전교육의 학습컨텐츠를 개발하는 연구가 부족한 데에서 기인하는 문제이다. 이를 개선하기 위한 학습컨텐츠로서 전주한옥마을은 매력적이다. 전주한옥마을은 지역의 역사문화자원을 활용한 도시재생을 통해 성공적으로 도시가 성장한 사례이다. 전주한옥마을은 역사문화도시로의 이미지 전환, 지역의 경제적 가치 및 지역경제 상승, 전통문화자원의 복원이라는 효과를 거두기도 하였다. 전주한옥마을 사례는 지속가능발전교육과 사회과교육의 교재로서 적합하다. 먼저 도시재생을 통해 지속가능한 도시화의 모델이 된 점, 지역의 경제적 이익을 실현시켜 경제적 지속성을 확보한 점, 지속가능발전교육에 대하여 환경적 관점만이 아닌 사회적, 경제적 관점으로까지 외연이 확대된다는 점에서 지속가능발전교육의 학습내용으로서 적합하다. 한편 지역의 사례를 사회과 교재로 선정하는 준거 기준으로서 적합성, 전형성, 대표성, 지역성, 흥미도를 설정하여 검토한 결과 전주한옥마을의 사례는 사회과교육의 교재로서도 적합하다.

영문 초록

This study investigated into problems in education for sustainable development in social studies textbooks of primary schools and explored the possibility of Jeonju Hanok Village as a model of education for sustainable development. The meaning of education for sustainable development requires an insight that integrates social, environmental and economic perspectives. Models of social studies textbooks of primary schools, however, showed a problem that only environmental perspective and foreign cases were overly covered. This problem is caused because research for developing learning contents about sustainable development is not sufficiently being conducted. As learning contents about sustainable development, Jeonju Hanok Village is an attractive model. Jeonju Hanok Village is a case that a city has developed successfully through urban regeneration using the historical and cultural recourses of the region. The successful results of Jeonju Hanok Village are as follows. First, Jeonju changed its image into a historical and cultural city. Second, the economic value of the city and the local economy of Jeonju have enhanced. Third, the traditional and cultural resources of the region have been restored. The case of Jeonju Hanok Village is useful as learning contents about education for sustainable development because the village has become a model for sustainable urbanization through urban regeneration, earned its economic sustainability by realizing the economic benefits of the region and expanded not only environmental perspectives but also social and economic perspectives.
